I feel like I’ve stayed in most hotels in Southampton, U.K., either prior to or after a cruise! And just prior to my next cruise on P&O Iona I stayed at the budget-conscious The Grapes, located on Oxford Street, Southampton. That looks great - far nicer than the prison (sorry, IBIS) you stayed in before. I love the attention to detail and desire to make you comfortable. The big companies generally don't give a rat's posterior if you are happy or not - they just assume they'll get your £. I'd stay here way before I stayed at the Ibis! Great review as always and that shower, the tiles may be a bit in your face but I love the walk in shower with no shower curtain and full privacy,

This place looks lovely, I love a stay above a pub. It also brings into focus my first travel top tip, never travel with more luggage than you can handle as there will always be a time when you are on your own with it!

Great review Jamie, I would of booked this.for our stay but the stairs are not suitable for me sadly, such a shame because it looks like a little gem! Haven't seen a place with so many extra touches like that in years!

Decisions, decisions. I love the homey feel and the price, but since we'll be staying a two or maybe three nights in Southampton before our cruise, we may want something with a balcony like the junior suite at the Leonardo that you reviewed. Thanks for another brilliant hotel room tour video Jamie! Oxford Street is a great location for a Southampton stay (100% with you on the Oxford Brasserie 😋) but we had no idea you could stay at The Grapes! It definitely looks like a good room, especially if it is a budget option! Great location and loads of space, with 10% off the pub downstairs? What's not to love?!

Funny enough, we just booked here for a cruise we're doing in October, having stayed here a couple of years ago - really good value, as you say, and some Titanic related history to the place too 😊 ...I think we'll definitely be checking out that Greek place for grub next time, flippin 'eck! 😃😋

Looks absolutely brilliant Jamie. Like you the street noise doesn't bother me as when I lived in South Queensferry my house was right underneath the Forth Road Bridge so had all the traffic noise and my current house in Winchburgh has the train line tunnel running right underneath it. The room looks brilliant with all the little extras and the bathroom looks brilliant and I know Daniel would love the walk in shower and he loves to have the showers running steamy do its like walking through a fog.

@TravelBlogJamie yep i've got so use to the noise of the traffic and hearing the trains i've actually stopped hearing them and switched off to the sound. My current house in Winchburgh you can still feel the vibration of the train going through the train tunnel on the floors but use to that as well. So if you ever see my picture wobble slightly on patreon meetings it's because of public service trains/freight trains going through the tunnel.

Funny seeing the Grapes here as I work around the corner and a group.of us go in for lunchtime beers. Drunks are on the pricey side but it's the best bar in the vicinity. Food in Ms Pita next door is 👍🏻

Looks fab but don't think I would be hauling my luggage upstairs unless it would be taken to the cruise by the Baggage Handling Company. Worth a thought. Look forward to your next video. Happy Cruising!

You can request to keep luggage downstairs overnight. Staff may offer to help with luggage depending on size and weight. However, this isn't compulsory.

The double room is between £60 - £100 pn Staff may offer to help with luggage. However, depending on the size, amount and weight. We do offer to keep luggage downstairs, which is accessible during opening hours. 😂 Sorry about the 2 hair dryers - we do have 1 in each room. I don't know how the other one got there! We are looking to update the rooms and bathrooms soon. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Paul - manager

What a charming location and wonderful price for a very nice room. I appreciate the warnings about stairs, I think I would leave my suitcase in my car and its good to know I need to take a change of unmentionables for embarkation day. Thanks for the reviews. Definitely wouldn't work for me and my husband who has mobility issues but for the price it looks absolutely fabulous. Would absolutely stay here if traveling alone or with a friend.

Looks good Jamie for the price. Not for me due to lifting cases up stairs. I had this problem at another hotel in Southampton where they kindly allowed me to store my main suitcase in their back office. I am quite able but lifting my heavy cruise case up several flights of stairs- absolutely not!😀

So, you need permission to eat in your hotel room over there? I have only travelled in North America but I can assure you that you can bring whatever you want into a room .I was also a chambermaid in a hotel for two years as a teen and I promise that people DID and ATE all sorts in the rooms. If you buy the room for the night, it's yours. I can't imagine being told I couldn't eat in my room if I wanted to. And how would they know? Do places search you when you come in to make sure you don't have a bag of crisps or a burger on you?

1) you don’t need permission - it’s unusual for a Hotel to actively recommend you bring food back to your room 2) i don’t care whether anyone takes food back into their hotel room or not whether they are allowed or not
