Yes, Anu Malik can give a Hume jab se mohabbat (Border) and Tan tana tan (Judwaa) in the same year. But he could have been 'influenced' :) Anu Malik is probably the only composer of the 90s with a range as extreme as swinging from Do me a favour let's play holi and Oonchi hai Building, to Aisa Lagta Hai and Tere dar par sanam. Versatile but very inconsistent. I had done some research on hits ratio of Music directors.

In 1991 after Saajan was produced by D gang, the D gang started backing them heavily. Saajan was with Laxmikant Pyarelal who composed 1 song and recorded it also. . One phone from D chief. LP out, NS in. This was told by Laxmikant in an interview. Similarly NS got more movies like Balma, Dil ka kya Kasoor, Deewana, Rang, Sapne Saajan Ke, Dil tera Aaahiq etc. Some like 1994 Salaami they got replacing music directors Shyam-Surendar. They replaced ANAND Milind for 1995 RAJA movie. . So Nadeem Shravan, then became big timer composers charging a whopping 10 lakh when other MD were charging just 1 lakh. . They would buy lot of songs from small time music director, pay them some amount and retune to suit their style. This was shown by VENUS RECORD Company in their own production movie "Akele hum Akele tum". . Later other MDs also followed suit on the force of cassette owners who used to be part-time producers for movies. They had no choice. If you say no, just get off. Career gone forever. You may be boycotted also in the industry. . NS left Baazigar in 1992. So Venus record saved 10 lakh in the movie production. Actually, it was a very small budget movie like Khiladi. Anu Malik was given the task to rework on some tunes. He did as per the requirement. Thus he gave them a massive hit for just under 70 lakh. Nadeem called a press conference and gave a hue and cry against Anu Malik bad mouthing him. . Those very ARR song "ROOP SUHANA LAGTA HAI" of The Gentlemen movie, were on number 2 in musical countdown charts for over a year, while ARR own movie Dubbed songs of Kadhalan was at Number 10 just for 2 weeks. . Yes Mukkala Mukkabla song in Philips top 10 for just 2 week's which was replaced by Anu Malik Baba Sehgal "Miss 420" Song Aaaja meri gaadi mein baith jaa. That song fared for 4 weeks. Believe me. Today I know that the cassette companies pay money for rigging the songs. . Back to Nadeem. He would bully the producers and directors putting tantrums like choose of male singer as Kumar Sanu only or female singer Alka Yagnik only. . Then lyricist, Sameer only. At times they even went to the extent of promoting heroines of their choice. Nadeem even went to producers to boycott Anu Malik and this Anu lost a lot of work in early 90s. . Nadeem gave Pratibha sinha her first movie. Nadeem gave Rang to Divya Bharathi snatching from Kajol. Nadeem warned walkout of Baazigar if they did not pull off Kajol because they had issues. It is possible to imagine 90's music without Anu Malik but we, who grew up listening to Nadeem Sravan's music can't imagine bollywood's music without the due. 90's bollywood music is incomplete without Nadeem Sravan. Everyone knows who used to copy music. Thank you Nadeem-Sravan ji for the countless melodies.

Film industry only wants people who can easily accept what the situation at a time is and deliver as per that. . During Initial struggling days till 1988 Nadeem Shravan were flexible. . In 1991 after Saajan was produced by D gang, the D gang started backing them heavily. Saajan was with Laxmikant Pyarelal who composed 1 song and recorded it also. . One phone from D chief. LP out, NS in. This was told by Laxmikant in an interview. Similarly NS got more movies like Balma, Dil ka kya Kasoor, Deewana, Rang, Sapne Saajan Ke, Dil tera Aaahiq etc. Some like 1994 Salaami they got replacing music directors Shyam-Surendar. They replaced ANAND Milind for 1995 RAJA movie. . So Nadeem Shravan, then became big timer composers charging a whopping 10 lakh when other MD were charging just 1 lakh. . They would buy lot of songs from small time music director, pay them some amount and retune to suit their style. This was shown by VENUS RECORD Company in their own production movie "Akele hum Akele tum". . Later other MDs also followed suit on the force of cassette owners who used to be part-time producers for movies. They had no choice. If you say no, just get off. Career gone forever. You may be boycotted also in the industry. . NS left Baazigar in 1992. So Venus record saved 10 lakh in the movie production. Actually, it was a very small budget movie like Khiladi. Anu Malik was given the task to rework on some tunes. He did as per the requirement. Thus he gave them a massive hit for just under 70 lakh. Nadeem called a press conference and gave a hue and cry against Anu Malik bad mouthing him. . But the result was that after that Anu Malik got Tips Cassette production movie KHUDDAR, Venus cassette company Main Khiladi Tu Anadi, Time Magnetics production Gambler and few more cassette company willing to give Anu Malik some work. . Similar situation as mentioned above of Baazigar again arose between Nadeem and Mahesh Bhatt. The movie "The Gentlemen". The producdr took acceptance letter from ARR and had the rights for recording 3 ARR songs. Nadeem was told about this to. Which he did jot agree. . Result, Nadeem walks out of Bhatt camp saying he does not want go record ARR songs.Mahesh Bhatt gives that to Anu Malik to take the assignment at less than one twentieth the price NS quoted. Anu, Gets the songs recorded. . Those very ARR song "ROOP SUHANA LAGTA HAI" of The Gentlemen movie, were on number 2 in musical countdown charts for over a year, while ARR own movie Dubbed songs of Kadhalan was at Number 10 just for 2 weeks. . Yes Mukkala Mukkabla song in Philips top 10 for just 2 week's which was replaced by Anu Malik Baba Sehgal "Miss 420" Song Aaaja meri gaadi mein baith jaa. That song fared for 4 weeks. Believe me. Today I know that the cassette companies pay money for rigging the songs. . Back to Nadeem. He would bully the producers and directors putting tantrums like choose of male singer as Kumar Sanu only or female singer Alka Yagnik only. . Then lyricist, Sameer only. At times they even went to the extent of promoting heroines of their choice. Nadeem even went to producers to boycott Anu Malik and this Anu lost a lot of work in early 90s. . Nadeem gave Pratibha sinha her first movie. Nadeem gave Rang to Divya Bharathi snatching from Kajol. Nadeem warned walkout of Baazigar if they did not pull off Kajol because they had issues. Nadeem agreed to do the D Gang brother Noor Kaskar's 1993 film Shreeman Aashique. Nadeem on the order of D gang supremo agreed to copy the Arabic Khalled song.... Didi Didi. For that movie even 1 song Nadeem composed on Noor Kaskar (Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar's brother) as lyricist. That song was "Abhi to main jawaan hoon". Few years later Noor Kaskar was found murdered in Pakistan when D had shifted base to Pakistan. . There are many many more facts about Nadeem and his heights of crazyness during the 90s. . Anu Malik is just a survivor. He is ready to give you a original tune Or pull copy from another tune. End of the day he wants to survive in the industry. He has told that boldly numerous times in different places. . His father a original composer was a lively example to him who raised 3 SONS, on penny amounts that he received as royalty from his 30 odd composes movies from HMV Cassette company. . He never got big time work in the industry because they industry people want people to beg for work, do chaaplusi and Sardar Malik saab never did that. Anu Malik agrees that he does all this because he has to survive. . End of 1997 Nadeem was just finished first financially because he had invested 50 lakh in 1995 album Sayesha which he lost because TIPS CASSETTE company could not promote it the way Gulshan kumar promotes. . Nadeem then plans a grand big time lavish album "Hai Ajnabi" Where he personally invests 1 crore in 1996 and asks Gulshan kumar to promote. Gulshan kumar though agrees reluctantly, but he does not care about the promotion. Actually, he wanted the high headed Nadeem to loose the money. . Nadeem gets furious when he looses all that money. He realises that Gulshan kumar actually consumed that money. Then with supaari, GK is sent to heaven in August 1997 with the help of Nadeem's friend Taurani brothers and some D links like Abu Salem etc. Nadeem escaped to London. He continues his innings from London. . Though later Nadeem gave music after 1997, the quality was poor as compared the work they did before. People found something was amiss in their songs. They were not the early 80s Nadeem Shravan. The soul was missing. One offs like Dhadkan, Kasoor, we're massive hits. But by 2006 they had been finished. . . So. End of the day No one is big or small. Everyone has talent, everyone is unique. It is the Film projects and the requirements that they come across and how the team decides what is best suited for that occasion. Flexible and buttery person wins the race. . Though a die hard fan of Anu Malik, I simply thrash 99% of his composition before 1991 and almost all after 2005. Even in the late 90s and early 00s after joining hands back with Sameer his music fell sharply. But one cannot forget those 14 years that he gave from 1991 MAA to 2004 Main Hoon Na. 🙂🙂🙂

Pinaki Saha Update yourself. Today's composers are not at all paid well, because in the kind of movies being made, there is no scope for songs. Whenever a song is required, the music companies and producers go for remixing an old song rather than experimenting with an old song. Another thing, music composers like Khwaja Khursheed Anwar, Naushad and Ghulam Haider would charge 1 lakh rupees way back in 1947 while Shankar-Jaikishan would charge 5 lakh in 1965. So, it is not because of Nadeem-Shravan. Anyways, A R Rahman was the highest paid music director of 90s, not Nadeem-Shravan.
