Tarikh is a daily program in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons of Indian History in Hindi. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about The Battle of Diu, a naval battle fought on 3 February 1509 in the Arabian Sea, in the port of Diu, India, between the Portuguese Empire and a joint fleet of the Sultan of Gujarat, the Mamlûk Burji Sultanate of Egypt, and the Zamorin of Calicut with support of the Republic of Venice and the Ottoman Empire. The Portuguese victory was critical: the great Muslim alliance was soundly defeated, easing the Portuguese strategy of controlling the Indian Ocean to route trade down the Cape of Good Hope, circumventing the historical spice trade controlled by the Arabs and the Venetians through the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. After the battle, the Kingdom of Portugal rapidly captured several key ports in the Indian Ocean including Goa, Ceylon, Malacca, Bom Baim and Ormuz. This battle marked a significant moment in Indian history, as Portuguese forces successfully defended their holdings against a powerful coalition of forces from the Sultanate of Gujarat and the Mamluk Empire. This naval battle, fought off the coast of present-day Diu, India, played a crucial role in establishing Portuguese control over the Indian Ocean trade routes and shaping the future of colonial expansion in the region. Why did the Mughal or Maratha during their peak never fight with the Portuguese to take control of Goa and other parts from the Portugal empire?

Mughal were powerful in their own capitol. For rest of the Bharat, They had pacts with local kings and other warrior dynasties. Mughal never ruled India on their own. Those were Indians, which helped Mughals to expand their reign. Nobody wanted bloodshed when they can talk. That was Akbar did. Aurangzeb took the other path and became the single reason for the fall of Mughals. His policies were anti-hindu so many local kings didn't support him, this made Mughals weak. In the end, when his extremists policies were at its peak, majority of kings stopped to support him. That made him weak and in the end, when he died, no one supported Mughals from their bottom of the heart. You know the rest of history. Before Aurangzeb, mughals were centered in North and centered India, Aurangzeb tried to win south but his Hindu allies didn't support him much. You know the rest of the history.

@@takken6021 Bro, There are two things. Power comes with price and greatness comes with mind. Akbar, was greatest mughal emperor. He gained that title for his policies. This policy continued until Aurangzeb came to power. Initially he was not extremist. He became so, to encounter Dara Shikoh's soft power. Ofcourse he was ambitious. Local leaders helped him as they did with previous rulers but slowly slowly they realised that his anti-hinduism is going up. Until then, He conquered Most of the India. There are no doubts, Aurangzeb was best combat warrior mughals have ever producer and, he was most powerful as he conquered much of India. But being powerful doesn't guarantee greatness. That said, Mughals paid their price after aurangzeb died. Mughals were foreigners but they adopted themselves according to India but Aurangzeb tried to destroy all of this. He surely appeased Maulanas and extremists but he couldn't see future. You know that, If Dara Shikoh would have become Emperor, No foreign power could break the unity of India.
