Absolute proof of bbce re-pack .. Overlook very carefully jabs the part on mattingly to ripken,look at the fold on wax ,and bend to the cards,not all fitting,also, when theese cards were cut they usually all were close to the same in centering throughout entire box

Great video Mr. Jabs! '84 had a great design, much better than some of the other 80's products that came after it. I grew up about 30 mins south of Evansville, IN - Don Mattingly's home town. He and Scott Rolen were both from there and visited quite often.

I traded a 73 Clemente for the Topps Mattingly rookie with a kid in school in 1990 & at the end of the day the same kid stole it & ran off nabbing both cards! Couldnt prove it & I still want to beat his ass for that to this day!

Great break! I know wax stains hurt the PSA grading, but I like a little wax stain to a card. It adds character and shows the history of collecting cards.

Great box break of this retro set. Nice seeing 2 Mattingly rookie pulls. The Simpson's episode you mentioned also had Mattingly which manager Mr. Burns wanted him to shave his sideburns, hilarious stuff. I enjoy this Topps release. I remember anticipating this set when I was 11 years old. There was a co-op store about a mile from my parents house in the U.P. of MI (sadly it's been closed since the '90's). My dad surprised me one day as he bought me a couple wax packs. I bought more that year with allowance. That store brings back memories as it always had Topps wax packs plus it had 1984 Fleer rack packs and my folks bought me some of those that year as well.

Bud Anderson was my grandfather's name..... the gum card, heh heh. I think that card is still at my grandmother's house! Someone managed to find one somehow..... Weird to find two different packs with both a Mattingly AND a Ripken!

Significant quantities of miswrapped packs began to appear around 1982 or 1983. They basically are rejects by quality control and were not purposely boxed in traditional methods. However, some may have been missed by QC and ended up in wax boxes and sealed in cases. At this point I have only a few 1989 Topps Cello miswrapped packs in my own collection.

1984 was an incredible year. All big 3 card producers came out with winners. The cards were beautiful. Quality, quality, quality. I thought '83 was good, but '84 one up'd it. '85 was OK too, but I thought Topps lost a step that year.

If I would have kept collecting, I would have picked up two boxes like these to start my set back in 1984. But 1) I outgrew the cards, and 2) Opening a pack and seeing Cey as a Cub ( 8:06 ) and Garvey as a Padre would have been too much for me.

Phils fans were angry when they traded for Diaz as they traded Lonnie Smith for him. Had a good 82 season, so the anger went away. 84 was when I stopped collecting for 20+ years. Nice video
