Jabulani’s lesson ~ Be bold and fearless 🤩
Born in 1997, Jabulani was found as a four-month-old little elephant, stuck in the mud of a silt dam, abandoned by his herd. He was brought into the care of Lente Roode, the founder of HESC. Against all odds, Jabulani survived his initial struggles and his health improved. In 2002, he found a family of his own when he was accepted by Tokwe (the matriarch of the elephant herd rescued from Zimbabwe). So began his life in our reserve. His name is a celebration of this second chance at life - meaning 'Happiness' or 'Rejoice' in the Zulu language.
Jabulani’s successful introduction into the herd was the starting point of something so much bigger - the creation of Jabulani the lodge (to support the elephants) - and the birth of a dream - the creation of South Africa’s first dedicated elephant orphanage, HERD.
Personality:
Jabulani is a friendly, kind and loving soul. He is highly intelligent and playful - he adores attention, whether from other elephants, his carers or guests. His mind is active and enquiring. He is always curious about his surroundings, wanting to be part of the action.
It was this characteristic that saw him visiting Khanyisa so frequently in the early days! He couldn’t help himself and would go to see her at the fence almost daily. It was clear that he had a connection with the little one and so our team decided to introduce him and Khanyisa to each other first. The success of this led the way for the rest of the herd’s bonding with the baby.
Jabulani is growing in confidence as a bull and in leadership and status in the herd as the years pass - which we are so proud to see!
Physical Traits:
Jabulani is a good-looking, well-kept gent, tall and slender with tusks that are short and evenly spaced, pointing in a very slight outward direction. His ears are rather flawless and smaller than those of the other elephants.

Terms and Conditions of the competition:
The competition runs from 15 April to 30 May 2020.
🐘The winner will be announced on 02 June 2020.
🐘 Each foster membership of USD100 or multiples thereof gets an entry to win.
🐘Prize includes a 3-night stay for 2 people sharing in a suite with private pool, all meals, safari activities, elephant experience, VIP tour of HESC, an opportunity to meet our carers in person, return transfers from Hoedspruit airport to the lodge.
🐘 Prize excludes flight costs, beverages and conservation levy of R150 per person

So he basically spent his first years with humans only. I read that they tried to set him free so he could live with the wild ellies but he returned to his Carers. So glad he did, he has a wonderful family now ❤

Oh my this is a special video. I started watching the channel a couple months ago and I watch the current videos and I have been binging on the past ones. Seeing Jabulani grow from an orphan to 25 years old is amazing. Seeing his meeting with Khanyisa opened up the flood gates in my eyes. He was alone and now is the leader of such an amazing family. Jabulani is still quite young, despite showing incredible wisdom. I bet Sebakwe still weighs around 1/2 a tonne more than Jabulani. He's taller AND wider. Still, very interesting dynamic between the bulls of this herd.

Jabulani is very very intelligent and with that he seems to p/u on the nuiances that others may not pick up on. He it seems to me is very aware that Khanysia is like he was when he first arrived at the orphanage. He seems to have such compassion for Khanysia and that is so unusual for a bull to show this to a baby elephant. It is a magical post in that tiny tiny trunk reaching for Jabulani just about got me crying. It is so so touching how Jabulani just stands patiently for Khanysia to reach out

I can't believe how young and beautiful you are Adine and after all those years to be able to have this tiny baby and watch him grow to the most magnificent Bull I cant even imagine the joy it must give to you. It's no wonder you know so much about them and how to read and understand their body language. Seeing you with that gorgeous blonde hair and petite figure reaching up to touch his head or tusks in the African sun and blue sky is nothing short of a True Piece Of Artwork. How do you manage to have 2 children and still look so in shape. Obviously it's all that heavy and non stop work you do daily. But you look so young. My husband's parents are Dutch/Flemish background and his sister Yvonne has hair exactly that same platinum blonde like you. Now you get to live seeing this little girl grow up, and how blessed. To loose any elephant after raising them has to be the most heartbreaking for real.
