Piku is in a friends with benefit situation with Syed- her business partner. She became co-pilot to Irrfan not becoz she wanted it... but becoz its a class conflict. Irrfan is the owner of the taxi agency and hence he doesnt consider himself equal to drivers and servants in status... so when they make Buddhan sit next to him he feels a bit awkward... similarly, at the guest house in Baneras also he has the option to sleep in the car with Buddhan like drivers ... but he clearly rejects the idea coz he doesn't consider himself to be from the low wage working class... so these 2 sequences actually depict the existing class-issues in India very subtly though... without being preachy.
