Jimmy can invoke a character in a way as if he is the character himself. He has so many roles as a side actor that are amazingly done. Just that mostly he has been offered stereotypical roles according to his looks. The rowdy type to be more precise. Often if not always, he also seems to be able to create the sense of empathy even more so than many top level actors. I wouldn’t say he’s underrated, but rather he has been deprived of roles he could very clearly do great justice to. Everyone knows that he’s a fine actor. Just that he gets roles that are not among the most significant ones in the movies, or not ones that can be called a central character.

@@nimaykargeti8913 he deserves to be bhai. There are many great regional actors who don’t get equal opportunity after coming to Bollywood. There are below average actors (rather celebrities) who get 10 times more main roles compared to them. Bollywood demands superstars instead of actors. No matter how much we praise Manoj, Nawaz, Jimmy, Keeka, Pankaj and so many great actors from different regions, they don’t get as many good roles as compared to so many stars who are just called actors because they do films. Getting a role is more about your status, acquaintance and relatives in the industry and charisma more than how well an actor one is. Unfortunate but 100% clear. All of the above are even audience’s favourites. But still the industry doesn’t care. It’s not even about money (as if you get more value if you use a superstar). It’s about dominance and celebrity status. Naam, Khandaan aur Image chalta hai Bollywood me mere bhai. As an outsider you get prominent roles if you build a loyal connection with them. A director decides who will be chosen, and they will choose who they favour the most. How many hits/flops you give matters very little. It’s a loyalty based industry. I’m not against it at all. But it’s a reality which any average person can clearly and very clearly see. They even go against people’s choice (which is risky for business) to favour their favourite ones. @@nikolatesla8031 if you can name 2 movies out of his so long career, it says it all bro. I’m not saying that he gets no roles at all. I’m not saying that the directors are turning him or many others like him down based on ill intentions. They have their loyal and favourite acquaints whom they want to give chances. And since some of them don’t happen to succeed most of the time, they are forced to give them repeated chances. They are just favouring their near ones. The others just get ignored in the process. That’s how it works. It’s not just in the film industry. It has something to do with our culture as well as the overall human civilisation. We want to favour who we love or who are devoted, loyal or at least in close terms with us. But it’s evident that when we give one chance, the other gets deprived. Even a mother often spoils her youngest. It’s understandable but yet a little unfortunate at the same time. The biggest stars in Bollywood are famous based on their looks, style and dabdaba in the industry. Saare taarif toh karte hain achhe actors ki. But at the end of the day, they need a SUPERSTAR to cheer for. The problem is in us (us as the public). Thanks for the mentions bro. I liked them both.

I agree with Jaby, the way he said yes to the alliance when he only sees her unconscious was unbelievable, but it is also common in indian arranged marriages where only requirement is that families should like each other, and the couple are not given time to get to know each other or fall in love. But once you watch second part you would realize why this was not a good match, and the problems they face due to such diametrically opposite personalities, so it's not as off of reality as you are feeling right now

The second part of Tanu Weds Manu (Tanu Weds Manu Returns) is way better than the first one. The sequel is spectacular...and Kangana won National Award for acting performance in Tanu We'd Manu Returns and it was declared a "Superhit" at the box-office

I'm with Achara on this one. Manu always had his own brand of strength. He spoke to Tanu's parents on Rajah's behalf - that took a lot of strength of character. Tanu was the more frustrating and self-centered character. I may not be able to answer why Manu fell for Tanu, but Madhavan's acting convinces me that he had- and very hard. Manu is such a sweetheart - perfect husband material. So gentle, unassuming and sweet.

Don't judge an Indian movie by IMDB ratings, Indians are very emotional when it comes to movies and actors, so you will see some movie have 9 plus rating due to public sentiments whereas actually the movie might just be a 6 or 7, similarly you will see all the nepotism accused actors movies that released in last few years doing terribly on IMDB ratings, people who haven't even watched the movie would just give a 1 star just to pull down that star, example, Geheraiyan, Judwaa 2 , Sadak, Gangubai, Sooryavanshi, lots of movies, if they hate someone they would just bring the movie down without even seeing it

People hate actors for various reasons, Akshay Kumar is accused of doing only patriotic movies whereas he himself is a Canadian citizen, Kangana is hated because of her extreme views and comments on people and politics in the country, Salamn is hated because of the criminal cases against him which he got off with power and money, I am not saying they are hated by everyone but yes most of the bollywood actors have haters due to various reasons other than the movie itself

He didn't "fall in love" or "get obsessed" the first time he saw her. It was an arranged marriage setting. There was no hoping for love anyway. He liked her & said yes (that's how it goes usually & that's why the parents ask them to talk to each other in private). Because she was different and as Achara said...completely opposite to him. As we know, opposites attract. That's what the movie is trying to emphasize on.😐 He fell in love progressively as they hung out & spent time together.

He did get obsessed. He kissed her while she was unconscious and clicked a photo the first time they met. Even before seeing her personality. That is obsession. From that moment he said no to any other girl. Any other good guy would have called her parents and asked for medical care if a girl fell unconscious if he felt any care for her. Or else he would've left the room in shock not wanting to be blamed for her being unconscious. He even told Jimmy that he said no to Jimmys sister only bcoz his head is in a mess. If it was a normal arranged marriage setting, he wouldve moved on from tanu and said yes to the marriage with jimmys sister. It was clear obsession. It's not like he got to know her and then fell in love.

A small fact: In an interview, R. Madhavan said that for this movie, for the first time in his entire career, he recommended a co-actor to the crew and that was Kangana. And since you guys loved the music of this movie, let's credit the music director Krsna Solo. He also composed the tracks for the sequel which also has great songs.

You are right Jaby… the pacing of the movie is all over the place. The writers had a good story, just that they could not turn it into good screenplay. It almost feels as if, They decided specific touch points in the story and filled up rest of it with cliches. Kangana’s character just comes out to be annoying and immature. It is not by design, it’s just plain ignorance on writers’ part. For most part of the film, Manu just seems like victimised, whereas he himself is responsible for most of the sad things happened to him. They should have addressed that in some way. Second part does remedy some of these issues though!

I absolutely agree with Jaby on this film. I just never understood why he kept liking her, and it felt wrong that he said yes to an arranged marriage by just staring at the would-be-bride unconscious. Then like a creep took pictures of her, and comes out saying "Yes". That does not float my boat. Oh, and while I just don't dig this movie, I hate the sequel to this movie. Tanu Weds Manu Returns is problematic as f**k. And as much as Zero is considered Anand L. Rai's worst film, Tanu Weds Manu Returns is my least favourite film of his, as it is problematic (and Zero is just badly made, but not problematic). And this movie is just a tad bit above Zero. That's my bottom three of Anand L. Rai: Tan Weds Manu Returns - absolute bottom Zero - second last Tanu Weds Manu - third last

Don't forget to watch the 2nd part. Way much better than the first. There are few films where the second film outdoes the first and Tanu Weds Manu Returns is one of them. Other films like Don 2, Dhoom 2, Phir Hera Pheri are few of those films where the sequel is better than the first.
