I just read A Dowry of Blood and LOVEDDDD it! You're so right - I do feel like people sometimes pitch it as something to read if you want a fun, steamy vampire story... and I'm like, huh? Did we just read the same book?! 😅 You've got me SO intrigued by the Carlos Ruiz Zafón series 👀

YEAH!!! I would never recommend it that way to anyyyonnneeeee.... !!!! I'm so glad you loved it... !!!! YAY!!!! If you ever pick up that Zafon series just know... it's weird... and random... and sometimes horror-ish and crazy... and complicated... so just try to go with the flow 😅

Omg YES for that little rant on reviews for Dowry, they seriously make me want to turn into an annoying 'well actually' Karen when I see those 🤣 We share so many faves, many of which I read because of you, so this gush fest brought me so much joy. Also, now I want to reread all of them dammit hahahah

I love and envy that you can confidently do this. there are a few books I read when I was a young adult, that I would say are my absolute all time faves, however I haven't re-read them... ever? and now as an older adult, if I did actually say this book and that were the best of the best I'm not sure if I'd be lying. there's been a handful of books that I've loved the shit out of since I've gotten back into my reading journey a couple of years ago, but I'm not sure if any of them are lifetime faves yet. except my House in the Cerulean Sea because jesus christ that fucking book.

I love re-reading, so it's definitely easier for me to choose all-time faves from books I first read awhile back!

I still need to read City of Girls, Bad Romance,The Chosen and the Beautiful, Jade City, So Many Beginnings, The Final Strife, Soulless, I'll Give You the Sun, The Shadow of the Wind, and The Jasmine Throne lol!!! I read The House in the Cerulean Sea 2 stars, Station Eleven 2 stars, Ring Shout 3 stars, and A Dowry of Blood was 3 stars. This was a fun video to watch! Omg I went to a study abroad program, too, in Rome, Italy in 2005, like my sophomore year in college, Loyola University! It was hot there from August to December. I'm half Mexican and my dad is Italian/German lol. Italian was hard to study in Chicago. I also had a great-grandma from Spain on my mom's side! Haven't been to Spain yet.

Great list! I'm definitely interested in the Foz Meadows duology, as I loved A Strange and Stubborn Endurance.

I completely agree with your vampire smut related comments. I feel similarly about rape to “love” plots. I mean no, just no!! Thank you for really emphasizing your point.

Yeah Dowry of Blood is simply NOT ever what I'd recommend as "fun smutty vampire romance!" Whew nope! And also nope to rape-to-love what the frick!
