@KalEl2903 ай бұрын
Nah. From Episode 12 through to 20, so the kidnapping/EMP through to just after Renee’s death, it’s actually one of the strongest runs of episodes the show ever does. Jack going rogue at the end is awesome in concept but it never feels huge enough. The last four episodes even the attack on Logan, feel so small.
@chris.shamblin2 ай бұрын
@@KalEl290 I completely agree. Season 8 has a real treasure trove of stellar episodes starting about halfway through, and they’re the true strength of this season. Those episodes either get ignored completely or overshadowed by the rogue arc, which is a shame because that arc doesn’t quite go to the level that it should have gone to. Season 7 is my personal favorite season, and while I’m glad Season 8 didn’t just copy and paste Tony’s rogue arc for Jack, I do wish they had emulated some of the “lines forever being crossed” elements of it for Jack.

Jack was a pansy in season 1. From season 2 he started to kick arse
@kenstu5 жыл бұрын
@@LawrenceAbramoff I can't lie, I wasn't thrilled at how the creators wrapped up Jack Bauer's arc for Day 8. I feel like we've already seen him snap since Nina Meyers told him that Kimberly was dead. Upon the Drazens putting him and his family through hell, he snapped and there was no stopping him. Seeing this on Day 8 with Renee is sort of unrealistic because Jack never bonded with Renee. She felt sorry for him in Day 7, and he her in Day 8. Not to mention the fact that they butchered her character in addition to killing her off in the most humiliating way possible. Even though I enjoyed this scene, I would liked to have seen Jack and Pavel engage in a game of cat and mouse as he was protecting Logan - who I couldn't believe they brought back after he was fatally stabbed by Martha in Day 6 - having been summoned by President Taylor - who evidently didn't learn anything in Day 7 for not trusting Jack - in order to get the Russians to the negotiating peace table when they were the main ones trying to derail the initiative. Much of the storyline was full of plot holes that I had a hard time keeping up with it. Eventually, for me it didn't end soon enough because it was getting ridiculous and 24 has always been about racing against the clock to prevent a catastrophe. Instead, what we got was Jack snapping for the eighth time only to discover that President Suvorov was behind everything upon him killing his constituents and becoming a federal fugitive again - something that we've saw in Day 4, 5, and 7 - which by then the creators were being redundant. Live Another Day remains in a class by itself despite the storytelling of Day 8. Unfortunately, Jack's fate remains unknown since the creators missed a huge opportunity to have Chloe and Belcheck intercept intel that implicated the Russian henchmen to terrorists plotting to disrupt a historical summit with the U.S. in Moscow, and that Russian diplomats were being targeted . This is where they could've summoned Kate Morgan to help them locate Jack, and stop the henchmen from derailing the summit. Seeing as how Belchek (if he survived), Chloe, and Jack were on the run, Kate could've gone back to the CIA and made the case to award them full immunity from both governments. Chloe, Jack, and Kate could've gone back to the U.S. and went their separate ways. That would've been the perfect ending for 24 instead of seeing a beloved character and series end with no closure. I digress.
@cloudtx5 жыл бұрын
@@kenstu What's so mysterious about Jack's fate in Live Another Day? He's rotting in a Russian prison for the rest of his life. That's it. Jack isn't Superman, if he couldn't get out of the Chinese prison then an older Jack is not getting out of a Russian one. It's a sad ending but it's good, powerful even. Not every story needs to end in an "And they lived happily ever after".
@kenstu5 жыл бұрын
@@cloudtx Of course every character in a story won't live happily ever after, and no, Jack Bauer isn't Superman. Nevertheless, his character was reduced to nothing at the end of Season 5 and beginning of Season 6 to where he was unrecognizable. I'm all for a protagonist having to undergo a perilous journey, but my goodness, the creators made it clear that they enjoyed wiping their asses with Kiefer Sutherland's character to the point (by their own admittance) that they ran out of ideas having taken so many gambles. Furthermore, the last episode of LAD was set up for Kiefer Sutherland, Mary Lynn Rajskub, and Yvonne Straholski to reprise their roles in the next miniseries, but Kiefer Sutherland backed out. Arguably he was tired of his character having no closure. Day 1 (though tragic) was a set up for a pay off in Day 2, and so on. Eventually, the gambles that the creators began taking left major plot holes that caused the show to lack in terms of storytelling. Lastly, I would liked to have seen the final episode of 24 have a new threat emerge, and Jack say "this is where I get off," before walking in the sunset with Chloe and Kate going their separate ways. That would have been well received by the audience because everyone was home, and they no longer worked for the government. Instead, the audience was left with Jack (once again) being taken to a foreign prison; this time by Russian henchmen (not authorities) as we saw with the Chinese at the end of Season 5. As this is one of my favorite shows, I was disappointed at how it ended and hopefully the creators will try one more time to right the wrongs of the previous seasons and give Jack, Chloe, and Kate the closure they deserve. A man can dream, right?
