I see you are ignorant on these things. when you open a loot box you have a chance of getting what you want but you may or may not get it. I know one kid who wanted to get ronaldo on ea fifa, the loot box themselves is a few dollars but he spent over $500 before getting ronaldo. EA says it is not gambling because you use the EA currency to open the loot boxes, you can get that currency by playing the game but it will take you weeks before you can get enough to afford anything. you can use real money to buy that currency. regardless, you still gamble with the currency when you open a loot box.

Let's say the kid doesn't use any real world money no credit card and instead he grinds for the currency. He uses that currency to buy loot boxes where there is a chance of getting a character or item. It is still gambling. You're fixated on credit card aspect and all that, but with or without real money it's still stimulated gambling and almost all the most popular online games have it. You mentioned there is an option to not gamble in some of the games, even in those games there are some items you have no choice but to gamble for. Even if there is an option, the kid still have the option to gamble. Most parents aren't into these games, they don't know the content and they can't play every single one of them. They rely on the rating board. These games are rated E for everyone and in worst cases E10+ for 10 years and older or T for Teen. Are parents just gonna forbid their kids from playing every online game they have not played themselves? You can decide to not give them access to credit card, but they will still be learning how to gamble at a young age and creating an addiction even adults can get addicted especially those with addiction problems. Any online game with any element of gambling be it using real money or in-game currency should have a mature rating and a sticker that says, there is gambling in the game. Edit: you're talking as if parents can't ask for refunds or return items kids purchase. The issue the OP is talking about is the gambling aspect. That one is more difficult for parents to regulate nowadays.

I'm not arguing the ethics of in game purchases and whether that leads to gambling as an adult. but yes if your kid is a minor especially the age of the kid in the video you should absolutely play it first and if there is in game purchases either explain to them its real money or just remove your credit card as a payment option. honestly i think were arguing about different things at this point and maybe my original comment was misplaced but it seemed like the op was saying that it was the games fault that the kid spent so much on his dads credit card because the game didnt tell him that he was spending real money when in reality it absolutely did tell him but he wasnt mature enough to understand that.
