Rod Ellis, in his SLA-model, puts it in relations to the input (krashen), output (Swain) and interaction hypothesis (Long). You can read Schmidt's publication on noticing for free here: nflrc.hawaii.edu/PDFs/SCHMIDT%20Attention,%20awareness,%20and%20individual%20differences.pdf Rod Ellis mentions it shortly in: "The Study of Second Language Acquisition" and in "Second Language Acquisition". I'm reading the first one right now. Already read the the others. I'm trying to work in-depth with noticing. Rod Ellis' SLA-model works well with The TLC-model.

The precondition for the learner to "adopt the principle" of 'noticing' in language acquisition is her / his "degree of motivation" to fight for a higher level of accuracy speaking this L2 - in most cases: a migrant. And the predominant European backlash with closing doors (or anywhere it might happen for that sake) seems not to encourage motivation for migrants at any point - except maybe for a handful of very well connected or very tough fighters !
