Plus, this little attempt at mutiny was most likely Jack assessing capabilities. He knew Angelica would save him at least once so he did this to see just how powerful Blackbeard was.

Jack was doing textbook Jack things. By this point Angelica told him Blackbeard was fated to die at the hands of a one-legged man (Barbossa). Of course Jack knew who exactly who she was talking about and begun scheming. I may dislike the 4th movie in comparison to the trilogy before this, but at least the writers got Jack being a triple agent in the same way he was in the first and third movies

For one, the theory doesn't explain where Jack's infamous intellect comes from, surprising people has less to do with it than seeing opportunities and exploiting them, and he misinterprets a ton of what Jack does or says. He hallucinates in 3 because he spends at least one or two years by his lonesome in Jones's locker and in 2 he can't figure out what he wants for the compass because what he wants is unattainable: He wants the heart to kill Jones but killing Jones means the Kraken is loose, so he can't kill Jones, meaning some other choice is necessary. He is lost, not brain damaged.

Spoilers: Jack and the crew played to take ship and then Black Beard came out and used his magic control of his ship to tie the crew up, Jack then hanged om front of Black Beard, Jack then immediately wanted to rat the person whose idea it was. A person would expect him to say "point fingers and name names" but out of sheer humor, Jack(Johnny) said "name fingers and point names" It's the unexpected that's funny the first time
