I recently rewatched in a sequence "A matter of life and death", "Red Shoes", "Pandora and the flying Dutchman" and "Black Narcissus". His work on those movies is transcendent. There were so many moments that left me again astonished for the beauty of those colors. Those night skies and seas, those piercing and brilliant reds and greens and blues. Even a ashtray full of cigarettes in Red Shoes looks wonderful. Powell and Pressburgers should be actually called Powell, Pressburger and Cardiff. He is often forgotten in discussion about the greats, but he really was, like for instance Saul Bass, one of the heroes that worked behind the scenes in the history of cinema.

One of them. It's too hard to select one. Freddie Field. Samuel Wong Howe. Gordon Willis. Cardiff is in the top 5.
