This was a great interview. Carr is such a warrior and gentleman. I love how he gets his inspiration etc. I was a Marine for 29 years and served as a MSG in Paris France, and Prague Czechoslovakia and did several mini tours, of which one was in Beirut in 1987. I retired out of the Marine Corps reserve as a LtCol in 2012. Also was an American living in Iran with my parents during the Iranian revolution, which got me very interested in foreign affairs, military, cultural/religious issues. This experience led me to joining the Marine Corps and later joining CIA, which I just retired from. I am not much of a fiction reader (I know Carr wants to change that, and after this interview maybe I will start), but I LOVED Terminal List and am looking forward to True Believer! Keep up the great work John. And CARR don't ever stop being you....Semper Fi!!!!

Okay, so after recently subscribing to Warrior Poets, and listening to this interview, I read Red Sky Mourning. Mr Carr, you have two new fans. I finished the book in 3 days, then passed it on to my husband, a long time Jack Reacher fan, who also devoured your book. I also listened to the Audio version which added another rich layer of threads to the tapestry of your storytelling. Now, I am going back to the very beginning to see where James Reece's story began. Thank you for this rich treasure trove of words woven together so intricately and with such passion for your craft.

Speaking to Jack’s experience in Jamaica, one of my most fond memories was sitting in Oxford, eating dinner and having a couple pints sitting in the pub where C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien would gather with friends to brainstorm and read their works aloud. As a fan of their works, it was a surreal experience. [Edit: Lol, wild that John mentioned C.S. Lewis immediately afterward 😂]

@@freidrichnietzsche6643 Yep, the pub is called “The Eagle & Child” but the locals in Oxford call it “The Bird & Baby”. If you want to read more about Tolkien, Lewis and their literary group, they called themselves The Inklings.

Jack, as an NROTC Midn in 1985, our AMOI, SSGT, was at the Barracks. He told his story. He was coming off night patrol heading back to get some rack time. As he was walking back one of his buddies was heading out to search for something and asked for his help. He got brow beat into helping and it saved his life. As an 18 y/o Midn listening to that was sobering. Can't wait to read that book.

Outstanding interview. Love all of Carr’s books. Can’t wait to get the current one. I read a lot of fiction, Ian Fleming, Alistair McClain when I was young and various authors since then, Tom Clancy, W. E. B. Griffin, C. J. Box to name a few. I like historical military works such as 13 Hours, Neptune’s Inferno, Blackhawk Down, Band Of Brothers, etc. But get me into something like philosophy and I am out like a light. What amazes me, though, and I never gave it much thought until recently, is the writing process. Taking an idea for a book and finishing it up with the final chapter. I can’t imagine the focus it takes a writer like Carr to push out a book every 12 to 16 or 18 months. To me that is phenomenal and I have a tremendous amount of respect for authors. Thank you, gentlemen.

Cut me to the core when he said every middle aged man should have amassed enough books to call it a library. Last time I moved I was so tired of moving stuff we sold a lot of our belongings. Among those was a large part of our book collection. Once we moved it just felt empty and now we are buying books left and right, books we’ve read and owned before as well as ones we’ve never read. I am still only able to say I have some books. No library yet. Lesson: never sell your books!
