August 17th is a Belgian distiller in the region of Namur is a city called Gembloux. As far as I know they use a potstill and the malt used is a winter grain called augusta, hence the name of their brand. Overall they are fairly 'young'. Their rare casks is very exploratory and all of them are rather limited in quantities. I recall that the W11 (Jack Daniels finish), W12 (tawny port cask finish) and the W13 that you tasted. Their core line has a 3, 5, 7 and 10 years old. The 7 years old one is my favourite, it has been aged in old cognac and port casks. With exception of their 3 years old that sits at 80 proof, all the rest have higher than 90 proof.

W 13 is met zijn 11 jaar de oudste whisky die al door Wave Distil op de markt werd gebracht. Opnieuw viel de keuze op een triple wood waarbij gestart werd met 3 jaar virgin oak, gevolgd door een rijping van 7 jaar op een ex Laphroaig cask van sublieme kwaliteit. De final touch werd gemaakt met een finish van 1 jaar op Jack Daniels cask. Deze whisky brengt het smakenpallet van virgin wood en bourbon cask mooi tot zijn recht in een evenwichtig en elegante peat afdronk. De kwaliteit is zoals altijd bij Wave Distil weer top, maar aan deze whisky hangt een prijskaartje.

August 17th Whisky is an atypical single malt with subtle smoky notes. The entire production process is carried out in accordance with ancient traditions, using high quality elements. The malting is done in the province of Namur, the distillation is done in a high quality Charentais still pot with winter barley called "August" or "Augusta". Its ageing, a very important stage in the making of the whisky, is carried out in very old and high quality oak casks that have contained Port or Cognac. August 17th Whisky Rare Cask W.13 - Laphroaig & Jack Daniel's Finish has been reworked and aged in old, high-quality casks from several countries around the world that have contained different types of spirit. Whisky W.13 is aged for 3 years in oak casks, followed by 7 years in Laphroaig casks and a further year in Jack Daniels casks.
