Not a big fan of the regular JD but this one is really a big step up. The Sinatra Edition is excellent as well, but way overpriced. Great channel by the way, enjoy your reviews. Cheers !

Thanks John. I’ve always enjoyed JD. It’s has a taste that’s unmistakable, great mixer too. I have tried the barrel select and found it quite enjoyable. I know some think it’s awful stuff, but I guess it all comes down to personal preference.

Another good review. My first whiskey was JD usually with ice. I picked up a bottle of this tonight and it was a pleasant surprise. Not spectacular but the sort of thing I like after work or on the weekend. There is enough that it isn’t boring, but not so complex that I need to be in a contemplative mood. It’s definitely an easy drinker. I’ll get it again.

I really like ECBP. Sadly I cannot get it often here. C923 seems like a great release, but I have not had it myself. Old Forester 1910 is excellent too and maybe has some similar notes to JD Barrel Select or Proof.

I get this hot glue note especially when i first opened the bottle, but besides that it reminds me of like a very "gourmand" as the perfume industry would say, like some cinnamon french toast +maple syrup being cooked up, but the kitchen is some old barn where someones hot glueing some leather together or something XD I wish there was more cinnamon spice but this is probably the smoothest non spikey mouth feel ive come across in whisky, i guess due to that lincoln county process, simple, pleasing, sweet, but still a bit interesting. I like it alot. I'd try Elijah Craig or Stagg Jr or Angels Envy or something over this next time.. but unfortunatley I never see anything else in that price range available here around Montreal.. JD, buffalo trace, makers, woodford and knob are the only options. Would you say woodford and knob are more spikey like buffalo trace? Or rounded like the JD? (i get a spikey youngness maybe even metallic from the buffalo trace, not sure if thats the rye they use or what)

I agree with trying something like Angel's envy if you could . From those two, perhaps Woodford. I really like Knob Creek, but it is similar to Buffalo Tra e, so it might be spikey for you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I'm not a big fan of JD regular or single barrel. However, the single barrel barrel proof is pretty fantastic. However, at its price point - $65 US - there are many better. ECBP, Stagg Jr. Thanks for another great review.

That is an excellent question. I believe it would be highly unlikely to remain after fermentation, then distillation. I read a few articles that implied that, and one research that demonstrated that. However, I am not a definative source for an answer. Sorry. Cool question though!

Howdy Neighbour. I'm a big fan of bourbons such as Wild Turkey 101, Bufallo Trace, Bullet, etc. Could you please tell me if this Jack any better than them? Or better than Woodford Reserve for example?

Interesting. I would prefer all of the bourbons you mention more than Jack Daniel. However, I would suggest their single barrel is better than Bulleit, and for me WT101 (many would argue that). Certainly a big step up from their regular!

I'm not overly fond of JD or gentleman jack. The single barrel is ok but over priced . ...Although the JDSBBP is outstanding !! One of my favorite whiskeys overall. I was sceptical about buying it but all the positive reviews convinced me and I am happy I did . I highly recommend it.

Yes. It's good. Not as good as this single barrel, but worth the $28. Definitely better than the regular JD.

I think Jack Daniel's is the biggest exporter out of the US but perhaps not the biggest total producer? Have the single barrel barrel proof on my list as it is an easy to find barrel proof that is always sold at retail unlike my favorites Elijah Craig barrel proof and Stagg Jr that are a hunt to find and almost always priced above retail.

I just managed to get a bottle at £25, down from £47. It’s a lovely whiskey, with quite a bite. For the going price, you can do better; but the whiskey is lovely enough that £25 for 70cl is reasonable. It’s 45%, 90 proof. I think the lessrr abv is due to EU and UK regulation.

Great review, thank you. I have had old number 7 (obvs), I have had master's destillers number 1, the honey whiskey liquer and the Gentleman Jack. This is the only other JD I have any interest in trying. Easily the best, for me so far, is Gentleman Jack, which has the mellow quality of an Irish whiskey. The honey - too sweet for me. And the master destillers just tasted like number 7, in my opinion. I have just bought this, on offer, on Amazon. I haven't had the pleasure of trying it yet. Would you say it tastes different enough, in your opinion, to number 7 to warrant buying it, out of interest? Obviously academic for me, now. Just wondered what you thought.

@@lawlini1979Great question. It is clearly Jack, and I bet you could pick it out in a blind taste test as that. However, I liked it significantly more. Better wood, and fewer rough edges (less alchohol burn). I would save up to buy this before picking up another bottle of No 7. As always, just my opinion! I hope you enjoy it.
