I accidentally discovered this JD on vacation internationally about 9 months ago, the bar tender did not have any bourbons but did have 2 JD's, the #9 and this one, and when i tried this JD Rye it was so Good, told myself i was gonna look for it when i got back

Some complain about how spicy it is, but if you don't swish it in your mouth like a $1000 bottle and just sip it and take it, it's delicious. Hidden gem.

The JD rye was one of my wife's and I favorites, I would drink it on the rocks and she would drink it with ginger beer and mint. I bought a bottle of the single barrel once, was disappointed for the price point as well. And when I saw a local grocery store put the rye on clearance when it was discontinued, I bought every bottle on the shelf.

Jack Daniel’s Rye is a VERY Good Pour for the Price Point. I like it because it actually has those Minty Vibes that I find in Dominate Rye Grain Drams.

The Single Barrel Rye is usually about $45 actually, and the new Bonded Rye is $35. But I agree the value in that $23 bottle is awesome. Unfortunately I think i saw somewhere it is being discontinued in favor of the new Bonded Rye, and they are now making Barrel Strength Rye. Which is a bummer for sure, but the Bonded rye is good stuff, and the Barrel Strength Rye is downright incredible. Cheers MBs

I’ve never been much of a fan of Jack Daniels Old No7, but I really like the Tennessee Rye. To my taste, that 70% rye elevates it above the “bourbon-esque” ryes like Wild Turkey, Knob Creek, Rittenhouse, Old Overholt, etc. I think the one they should have compared the Jack Daniels rye to was George Dickel Rye. The Dickle rye is MGP 95/5 but charcoal filtered, and it’s very near the same price and is the same proof as the JD.

FYI you MB’s this is now discontinued and replaced with the Bonded Jack Rye. Rex: 6/10 on the Nicholson reference, Daniel: 8/10 with the “flavor” reference snuck in. Cheers!

I agreed 100% about the lower proof. 101/100 Proof is my ideal sweet spot, but I also enjoy a number of 90 proof whiskeys as well.

Not to be that guy, but the JD S/B Barrel Proof Rye (admittedly only on the shelves 2-3 times per year) in my market is only a $10 upcharge from the JS S/B Rye and I think well worth the upgrade. I also think the JD Bonded Rye (+$7 more, for the smaller 700ml) is a decent upgrade in finish on the J/D STR Rye. Cheers.

Would love a blind comparison with all Jack products. FINALLY tried Devils Cut and compared it to Gentlemen. Do both do anything to beat out a TX Barrel Strength? Hellllll no. But it was nice seeing that they are vastly different products

I've tried to like jack, jack bonded, gent. Jack, rye, etc. And the ONLY two that I've loved were the single Barrel and s.b cask strength. But then again, I like very very few ryes

@@RustyShakleford01 I think maybe that's why I like them. There is something to the jack Daniels flavor profile I get in every thing else that I don't like, that is absent in the singe barrels. I like their barrel proof for mixed drinks or when I want it on a big ice cube. The 120+ proof stands up much better than the 94 proof.

Daniel, I am really curious about making cuts when distilling. Is there literally someone standing by the spirit safe just tasting every few minutes? Wouldn't they be drunk after a while? If they aren't tasting it how do they know when to make cuts?

The only thing I have against Jack Daniels is the filtration process which removes the flavours. Some enjoy that and others are put off by it. That’s just personal preferences. I’ll not personally mock anyone for their preferences unless they’re a mate and then it’s just banter

I tried JDs rye a couple years ago, and my thoughts on it pretty much echoed what Daniel and Rex say here. It's sweet and friendly, not very complex but not too boring. It's got the JD house flavor, but better and more interesting.

jd is the king imo , you can get it anywhere, its pretty cheap , tastes good, cool bottles. what some dont like is its better than $60 bottles so they try to find every fault when in reality its the working mans American whiskey

I think the issue is that you two are more into rye than you used to be. In your old videos the vibe was that rye was not your thing. There were a lot of ryes back than that you didn’t seem to like and should probably re-review. Old Potrero and Michter’s Rye are two examples.

Honestly, this is one of the cheapest ryes in New Zealand and it is amazing for the price Here it is $53 The next cheapest I can find is wild turkey rye at $63 and then Woodford at $73

If you prefer Natural Light to a good imperial stout, you'll prefer Jack Daniels Rye to most other ryes. It's rye extra light. All the labeling and brand recognition, only 10% of the flavor.

I don't know, I'm just so tired of "ryes" that are just bourbon with an effervescent rye-like note. When I drink rye, I want it to taste like liquid rye bread, without the slightest hint of a single bourbon flavor. No cherry, no brown sugar, no new american oak, just rye.
