Captain Blood Jack Dyer telling a classic shirtfront story on the Channel 9 Footy Show. "He went up in the air, stayed there then came down".

I nursed Jack in the Nursing Home in Camberwell. He was as gentle as can be. I met his son Jack Junior, and called him Mr Dyer. His son said to me call me Jack. It was a pleasure to nurse and care for you, Jack Dyer. When I go to the G, I always clean and dust his statue.

Culture is just as important as the game itself. League Teams goes off air & footy loses its soul. Those guys were legends in every sense of the word.

They don't make'em like that anymore RIP the great Jack Dyer, Tough and True Gentleman sorely lacking in this day and age.

We can accept you weak-as-mid-strength-piss bastards being completely backwards about your shitty spherical ball cardio regimen (that you can’t even pick up…seriously, what kind of rule is that, you twat?); we can accept that somehow it got exported everywhere (likely on the back of imperialism); fuck, we can even accept the money involved…but you slander Captain Blood’s Dyerisms with your utter half-assed, statistically incorrect wrong opinions, and you have crossed a line. Dyer might have avoided accidentally burying someone in this (true) story, but he would cause any soccer (because we play football, not you) “athlete” to utterly disintegrate with a simple gaze. He’d probably actually kill them if they were on the receiving end of a bump. And City is better than United, you flog. Even Noel and Liam Gallagher agree on that.

I loved Jack Dyer, Bobby Davis and Lou Richards on league teams, it was such a funny program. Fair bloody dinkum Jack Dyer was the funniest bloke. I love hearing the story of when Jack Dyer was coach of Richmond, and he called all the players in and told them to pair off into three's.

They intentionally squeezed them up on one table. It was such a tight fit. Richards, bought out the best in the other 2 . I had no interest in footy by that time but watched the show when I was home. Always got a good laugh.

And I'd like to mention that it was said by the Richmond Football Club that they are going to demolish the Jack Dyer Stand and rename it. Jack Junior said "do what us best for the Club. Well said and Blessings to you Sir.

Correct, there was a bit of controversy on whether to demolish the old Jack Dyer stand but the Dyer family gave the club their blessing as you say. The new stand was going to be named something else but the club has decided to also name it the Jack Dyer Stand.

I remember Sam Newman talking about him saying that this was his favorite moment ever from the Footy show because according to him “Jack Dyer was the funniest man in the world because he didn’t know he was funny“

The player he hit was my Dad and he wasn’t very big as at all so Jack has embellished that story a fair bit

IIRC, it was Frank Hanna, who was listed at 189cm & 85kg on AFL tables, so not too far out. Round 15, 1948 at the MCG.
