This often happened when secondary characters got their spin-off. "Sandra" worked better in small doses, surrounded by people that didn't quite see eye to eye with her, allowing her to steal the spotlight from characters like "Mary" from 227. Anyway, that's the way I see things. Thank you for sharing!!!

After the show’s fourth season, Jackée starred in her own television pilot, entitled Jackée, found Sandra Clark moving to New York City and working at a health spa. NBC aired the pilot on May 11, 1989. The pilot was rejected, and Jackée left the show; however, she guest-starred in seven of the show’s final episodes.

The problem when a character gets their own spinoff is that it loses some charm because a majority of the cast from the main show is gone. We're introduced to a whole new cast of characters when we're use to seeing Sandra w/Mary, Rose, etc. There wasn't a character here for Sandra to bounce off of or be an obstacle for her.

I just watched the 1st season on DVD and the creator said the show could've ran longer because it was based on her life with so many people in her building. I doubt it unless they found another pretty lady like Jackee. Maybe then the show had a good chance to run another 5 seasons.

TheBrownIsland Marla Gibbs and Jackèe were having problems by the time the fourth season came along. She won an Emmy a year prior and the show shifted to her character for seasons 3 and 4 (when she dropped her surname). And occasionally 5, when she was recurring in seven of the episodes. As the show was a vehicle for Marla since _The Jeffersons_ were canceled. Jackèe became the show's breakout star. This was spun off as a test to see how well the pilot would perform but it never took off.

TheBrownIsland Its like The Jeffersons 1981 Spin off Checking In with Marla Gibbs. Keep in mind that while Jackee was the breakout character on 227, Marla was also the breakout character on Sherman Hemleys show the Jeffersons. However, just like Jackees spin off series, Marlas spin off series was also a failure only reaching 4 episodes!

Exactly ... this episode was added to the sydnication package for 227. They removed the JACKEE opening credits and used the 227 opening. The actors in this episode are then listed a guest stars over the opening scene. Good way to re-purpose a failed pilot and it lets 227 fans see what happened to Saunda when she left DC.

I agree with everyone else that said the show should have been called 'Sandra'. It made no sense to call it 'Jackee' because that is the name of the actress and not the character she played. I think the producers felt that because Jackee had become very popular on 227 and was a household name by 1989 they decided to market the show using the actress's name in hopes that it would bring in her fan base. NBC didn't even give the show a chance. They just pulled the plug after the pilot episode. I consider that a tragedy in television history because 'Jackee' had the potential to run for 5 seasons and possibly open the door to a 227 extended universe.
