Darren Wood aka Bloomlord ties a classic pattern that he uses guiding on the Missouri River in Montana. This pattern was originally designed and tied by Jack Gartside from his desire to design a fly for the Madison River that he didn't have to change flies to represent different food. This fly can be swung like a baitfish, stripped like a crayfish, nymphed to imitate a stonefly, or evidently possibly even a hopper. This fly has sometimes been called the Philo Fly, the Gartside Pheasant Nymph, or the Swallow. This fly can also be weighted in the shank, and the originally pattern also calls for antron in the body. We think this is a great simple platform for many types of flies and great use of those pheasant feathers from upland season. We hope you can get creative with it.
