Your boys are priceless. The picnic jogged my memory back many years when my husband was contracting. He left before the kids woke up and came home very often in the night. He was working on one of the big horsey estates on the downs around the Vale of White Horse and suggested I go up with the children and a picnic so that they could see their dad. So I arrived at the appointed place and we sat on the verge, birds singing, blue butterflies in profusion when a very irate Sir## ordered us off the premises. I tried to explain our presence but he remained hostile. So I said “fine we will go, but I need you to deliver my husband some sandwiches”. I could hear his brain slowly assimilating this request, no one with a knighthood is expected to deliver sandwiches! He then announced that we could stay. Spoilt what should have been a fun outing. The children didn’t even break into a canter for fear of retribution from Sir ##.
