RIP Jack. You provided hours and hours of such great music for me and my army buddies, while we were stuck on a remote island off the coast of Siberia. I wore the record out.

Talk about natural talent and showmanship as well as good looks, Jack Jones had it all! I was too young to appreciate him at the time as he was from my parents era, but hearing his music again after reading of his passing is like a breath of fresh air of genuine musical talent. I really hope his style of music makes a comeback so all of the younger generations can enjoy and appreciate the timelessness of the sound.

Jack Jones was the son of Allan Jones, a great singer and actor who was in the 1936 production of "Show Boat" and the Marx Brothers' "A Night at the Opera."

This was the coolest "talk show" ever to be on television. It was so much more than a talk show. The audacity right from the beginning, and throughout the show's reign. Dave is to talk show as the Beatles are to music, for me. And they both had tremendous success with rooftop performances.

One of my favorite singers ever - handsome guy with a gorgeous voice. He came around the time when music was changing, or I'm sure he would have been a much, much bigger star, and as it was, he had a very long and good career. I saw him at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco in the early 70's and held up my fingers in a peace sign and he came back out to scan the audience to see who did that! Met him backstage and he was as nice as he was handsome. If you can find the album - "Jack Jones Sings Michel Legrand" - it's the most magnificent album! (You can hear all the songs online.) I remember my mother used to tell me about the celebrities of her era, including Jack Jones' parents - Alan Jones (famous for a song, "The Donkey Serenade") and his mom, Irene Hervey (an actress in the 1930's). End of an era, truly. Rest in peace, Jack, and sing with the angels. When I get up there myself, I'll flash you the peace sign.

@@gerrydooley951 Actually, it was Bing Crosby who invented modern crooning. Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, especially, developed and perfected it, followed by Jack Jones and Michael Buble, who continued the legacy. And that's not including the LADIES, like Rosemary Clooney, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn. Sinatra's career was actually on a steep slide starting around 1946, and particularly rough between 1948 and 1952. He lost recording contracts, and damaged his vocal cords and lost his voice for several months in 1950. His role in "From Here to Eternity (for which he won Best Supporting Oscar) in 1953 revitalized his career, as did his evolution of his musical style into a more jazzy and mature sound, and signing with Capitol Records, later, developing his own label, Reprise.
@User314522 ай бұрын
@@gerrydooley951 No question that Sinatra was absolutely one of the most influential and important singers ever, but as to who actually INVENTED modern crooning, that was indisputably Crosby. Crosby remained a crooner; Sinatra certainly took it beyond.

Jack Jones is gone?? This is staggering to me. I had a wild crush on him, which was odd because I came along one generation too late--but, boy, did he ever deserve my adoration. In my mind he was a timeless classic (or is that redundant?)...I heard some random guy on my parents' sleepy, monotonous Easy Listening radio station sing "What I Did For Love" and was committed for life. I've heard unflattering stories about him from a trustworthy source, but I find myself forgiving him because of that voice, those intonations. And let me correct something: he was every bit a star, a big one, appearing on every variety show of his era. I mean, c'mon, Judy Garland had him on her Christmas special. So don't relegate him to Love Boat status. He had quite the career and quite the catalogue.
