Listening to this gives it entirely new meaning to me than just reading it.

I agree. Hearing Kerouac reading his own work is so much better than reading it.

passion pit is such a genius for thinking to put this in sleepyhead so much symbolism

I proudly have no fucking idea who/what you're talking about. But it was 9 years ago anyway, so whoever that was has long ago faded back into obscurity.

Passion Pit made a song called Sleepyhead, and they took “And everything is going to the beat” and put it in their song. Along with a part from Oro Mo Bhaidin by Mary O’Hara. Recommend giving it a listen, it’s really good

Oh Jack. Originator of new way of telling the seeing. Spontaneous Prose, Jack's Rose. Sketching all you saw in little pocket notebooks w pencil. Trudging roadside forward knapsack filled with few essentials mostly manuscripts your books six (or was it seven?) already written before ROAD was finally published in '57... Oh Jack, SERIOUS WRITER and seeker of life ALIVE, searcher for life ESSENCE in the bulging miles of the curve of this continent and its American towns and traditions and BOP and babes and the "fellaheen", the simple folk of hard work and earth and community.. Oh Jack, vulnerable and sensitive soul, reminds of Van Gogh. Oh Jack, vibrant beat brother mine, creator originator of a way a writing a novel form of the novel, truly something NEW, a way of not just expressing but of EXPRESSING... but, can they hear? OH YES , even the haters heard Jack, else it would not be known that they hated. You Jack, creative genius truly. The Great Rememberer. Memory Babe. Boy of two languages, surely a key in what unlocked within you. Poet of sights and sounds and sensations poured on the page as only you and you only. This is mere acknowledgement of the sweet beat search and Mexico Paris Frisco Railroad any every road you drank and died to roll and to write oh Jack, and whatever your faults and flaws as many as mine as many as man, you knew them too... Much Love and Gratitude Jack. Peace dear brother.

He mentions 'Dean' so is this from On The Road? As in Dean Moriarty, (or Neal Cassidy, as thats who it represents) or he actually talking about someone else called Dean from that group?

Help me out. I just don't dig Kerouac anymore. I was among the most ardent admirers 30-years-ago. He just ain't all that I thought was that. Is it youth that dug Kerouac?
@mooreenglishpls7 жыл бұрын
I tend to agree with you. I remember reading Dharma Bums when I was in high school and LOVING it. Looking back, I tend to find it a bit juvenile. Funny what time does, eh?

Shan I dont know shaun. State of mind. He was good. We hoofed it to a chet baker album. Good stuff. Good imagry. Who hooves it to chet baker albums these days? He captured a time and a place. He hated himself for it... But it was always be there. This is why kerouac will endure even though his sad liver gave out way too soon. Obuadhaigh.
