People can say Kirby's dialogue was corny, but the narration when Flane dies carries real weight to it. Kudos to Kirby once again.

I really enjoy your linking Captain Victory to New Gods so much, I feel like if you could get permission from the Kirby Estate to do it, you could do a take on weaving a new tapestry that connects New Gods, Eternals and Captain Victory in a Grand Design format. You’re the only person I know that can emulate Kirby and yet still be authentic to your own creativity to pull it off!

I can't help but feel that as we move forward, Jack will become recognised for his writing as much, or even more, than his art. Like Blake, or Goya - a visionary artist that stands outside and above time.

I checked his New Gods run last year. The earth stuff kinda dragged, but I was blown away whenever he went full on cosmic mythology. So many cool and fun concepts.

I had heard the Scot Free theory (who had a death wish after losing Big Barda the love of his life) - but I like the Orion theory as well (and the dialogue seems to hint at Orion more). Great episode Tom!

Wow~ back in the 20thCentury I'd never bought&read this series, and Silver Star... maybe I thought The King had already shot his wad and was just repeating himself... these last few episodes have been QUITE a revelation... !!!

I didn’t even put it together until now but the same way that Kirby would flesh out his favorites in earlier stories, Otomo would tie his works through out the years into eachother by using a similar set of characters or themes. Going to miss those insights from Ed.

I don't remember the last time I read Captain Victory, but you've really seen more in it than I remember seeing. After this, the Hunger Dogs, weighed down as it was by corporate meddling, seems almost regressive.

I definitely became a lifelong fan and collector of Kirby starting in the 1980s after getting a few issues of Captain Victory and his Galactic Rangers, I was familiar with his work on The Eternals and Captain America and the Falcon in the 70s but Pacific comics really changed my perception of the King. And I had the Hunger Dogs before I got a single issue of New Gods, which I think still blows me away.

I’ve always loved Jack’s work, and absolutely admire it and to this day will sit back and just look at it. I was never as big of a fan of his writing, I feel like the ideas and concepts were great. But the execution a lot of the time for me left a bit to be desired. I have nothing but great memories of Jack when I was a kid. And to this day will pick up anything he wrote drew or has his name attached to and check it out. But I think some of his books such as the new gods Mr. miracle the demon would’ve done well to have someone help him with the writing.

When Black Mass’ shadows are crawling across the floor it reminds me of the shadow possession jutsu Shikamaru uses in Naruto. More inspiration from Kirby? Let’s say yes.

What would have been the legal/copyright situation, in the real world. Is there any correspondence on file between Kirby/his lawyers and DC, in how this connects to Kirby's previous work? Sorry if I'm ignorant of a very obvious resource.

Any advice on the best version of the Fourth World to collect? Absolute Editions or Boxset? I’d like to get something which hasn’t been recoloured in a terrible way (which is my main concern with classic comics these days)
@andykettler33016 ай бұрын
The issues are the best…for the graphic novels I would say the 2007-2008 editions have the best print quality. The absolute editions are great for the scale-and if you enjoy gloss paper for your comics you may prefer that…
@PanchaMaestro6 ай бұрын
@@andykettler3301 Are the new paperback ones the same as the the older hardback editions? At least those were on some off white matte paper.
@andykettler33016 ай бұрын
@@PanchaMaestro The modern trades, absolutes, and omnis are printed on a decent gloss (personally I don’t like the way gloss paper catches light under certain reading conditions). The ‘07-‘08 editions are printed on a really nice newsprint-like fibrous paper. While they also feature the “remastered” digital colors the slightly warm tone of the paper benefits the coloring. The design of the books are nice too (and match the Ditko omnis that were printed around the same time). I suppose all of this may sound subjective…you really can’t go wrong with any version of these books!
@PanchaMaestro6 ай бұрын
I have like 95% of the originals and the four 07-08 hardbacks Omnibuses. They are some of the better reissues something DC isn’t very good at usually. The Kamandi Omnibuses done in a similar manner are pretty nice as is the Spirit Archives. Basically the only Archive sets that are.
@dionturner42796 ай бұрын
Thanks blokes, looks like the 07/08 search is now underway. But I’ll default to the current if that proves a chore. Never touched these in my 35 years of collecting so looking forward to it.
