Thanks Chi Keng for highlighting the podcast and I've watched it in full length. The headwinds that Alibaba is facing which is one of the most important things is China consumers are not spending enough which largely due to their fear of losing jobs. Restriction of NVIDIA chip export from the US has slow the cloud business to grow with AI capability. China is about 2 years behind to catch up. He admitted the failure on users' experience which has taken steps for improvement. On the China regulatory side on e-commerce as Joe said has become more clearer. The first two issues will take some time to resolve. Fixing the UX should see some immediate impact in coming quarterly result announcement. Joe comes across to me as a very competitive and resilient character, his love for sports, which has set this management style and to be able to bounce back when fall. That has put him at a right place to fix Alibaba.

As someone with no baba shares, after watching the joe tsai podcast, my questions are : if you hv fallen behind all these years , what's there to guarantee you are not going to fall behind going forward especially when the competition is way ahead? Next, what was founder n chairman doing all this while baba was 'lost in the woods'?

I think Alibaba and Amazon are extremely well positioned. Not only are they leaders in e-commerce, but they are also leaders in the cloud. The latter provides scalability, which is particularly important for AI foundation models.

My bag holders! Remember the buyback program is still huge, the company bought a ton last quarter, is likely buying a ton more at these depressed levels. As painful as it might be right now, this will be better for us in the long run. If your not buying anymore, stop watching the market for a few months. Regardless of whether you buy more or not, your “ownership” in the company is significantly increasing through the buybacks. I’ll gladly buy your shares if you decide to sell.

no.1 issue with $BABA is its relationship with the central committee. nothing else. i use alibaba, taobao, 1688, 天猫 weekly。。。 love it. but with jack ma around, he reminds the CCP of how close they came to losing control of the agenda.

My cost basis isn’t too bad, and the dividend gives me a reason to be patient. If the CCP would get out of the way, the Chinese economy would flourish again. If they don’t of course, it will continue to stagnate.

I did not feel great confidence in listening to Joe Thai. I currently showing about a 50k loss with 160 avg share price Have held for several years. Seriously considering moving on. I have profits in some others like Nvidia, Apple and Meta. Taking the loss would allow me to trim. I wonder what Munger would do if he was still here.

I cringe every time you make a positive video about baba. You’re a total jinx. No the stock is NOT back. If you look at the chart, this will fizzle out at $77/$78 and head right back to the bottom of the downward channel in the low $50’s. Anyone listening to Tai, don’t. He provides advice on news 🗞️ and announcements. NOT on technicals and the numbers NEVER lie! We buy in the $50’s and not a single penny higher. Just look at the chart 📈 and you’ll see I’m right.

Baba stock will not move until it's earnings increase many folds and foreign investments step in. With huge cash piled up baba should look to buying already making money businesses this will give the quick jump start to their earnings as a whole and it will bring in the Foreign investment.
