Great work Bruce! Wont be long now! Quick plumbing tip for you. When using plumbers sealing PTFE tape always wrap it onto the thread in a clockwise direction (the same as the thread) so that as you tighten the fitting it is pulled tighter into the thread. If you wrap it anti-clockwise the thread is trying to unwrap it as you tighten the fitting.
@BuildingSYMistress Жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for your good comments, appreciated, well spotted and of course you are correct re. tape, as I replied to somebody else who also spotted this - I did actually remove the piece applied incorrectly and replaced it, which can be seen beside me at minute 12:47 🙂👍🏻

Voice of experience here Bruce. I don't know your future plans, but you'll need a lot of cushions to make the 90 degree seating area comfortable, or, you can make up a foam 'wedge' to go behind the upright sections. The added support for your lower back will be welcome for any long stints on the settee. It can be removed for dining and replaced for just lounging, so, no permanent changes to your well laid out design!... I'm a bit nervous about those 'bearers' only being 'glued' to the top layer of the ply. A long SS screw down through the top into the liner will add a mechanical support to what may become a heavy tank when full...
@BuildingSYMistress Жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for your good comments Mike, appreciated, re. the saloon seating, I made the angle for these 105° off vertical, which is the industry standard for lounge seating and I explained this in Ep.89 which you could watch - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHXGi5mXbdZ7epY but yes, cushions will also be a part of lounging in Mistress to increase individual comfort; re. tank knee supports, jfyi the Company reported shear strength of the epoxy used on wood is 1800 psi = 12,410 kPa = 1,265,468 kgf/m2, = 0.0045m2 = 5.694 tonnes of shear strength per one knee, there are two and which does not take into account the same m2 area of the two bearers with Fix15 adhesive applied and as mentioned in this video there will be struts supporting the outer ends, not to mention cabinetry also 🙂👍🏻

I think the knees supporting the tank beams are too small. Imagine the tank being full and you are dropping off waves... That glue may be good but I would not trust it cantilevered like that. Why not fill in the triangle under the beam with ply?

There may or may not be a right way to apply teflon tape to threaded fittings, but there is a better way. If you wrap the tape in the same direction the mated fitting will be going on, (~12:30) it will not bunch up the tape as the mated fitting twists against the loose end of the tape. The mated end should go with the direction of the tape wrap, thus tending to tighten it. Yours did not appear to bunch up, but it can. Since there are no screws holding the tank brackets, only the epoxy, I think I might have filled that tank with water to see if those brackets will actually support the weight of a full tank of liquid. Water will be nicer to have to clean up than what is going into it later. In fact, I think I would add supports from the overhead that augment the wall/hull brackets. It would be peace of mind in a pounding seaway.
@BuildingSYMistress Жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for your good comments Brian, much appreciated and regarding application direction of Teflon tape - yes, of course you are correct sir! A little confession about what was shown in this video, I did actually remove the piece applied incorrectly and replaced it, which can be seen beside me at minute 12:47 and I have the clip of it being reapplied correctly, but forgot to replace what was included, so once again - thank you for your detailed eye on things and keeping me on my toes sir! Regarding the holding tank supports - jfyi the Company reported shear strength of the epoxy used on wood is 1800 psi = 12,410 kPa = 1,265,468 kgf/m2, surface area is 0.0045m2 = 5.694 tonnes of shear strength per one knee, there are two and which does not take into account the m2 area of the two bearers with Fix15 adhesive applied and as mentioned in this video there will be struts supporting the outer ends, not to mention cabinetry from overhead deck beams also. So, strong enough for this 70kg when full tank ? I would say overkill 🙂👍🏻

I wouldn’t have thought that blue water supply line to your toilet is big enough? 🥴 TMC upgraded their supply from 19 mm to 25mm. Yours looks like ? 10mm?
@BuildingSYMistress Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your good question, appreciated, the supply pipe size is 12mm and because this toilet is electric flush I am hoping that this size will be fine, however use time will tell,... 🙂👍🏻

too late now but that john guest pipe should be cut with a proper cutter so as to not crimp the pipe and lead to cracking later - experience from my caravan when I used cutters rather than a stanley knife or the correct cutter
@BuildingSYMistress Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your good comments Jim, appreciated and understood and I did trial using a box cutter blade and the sharp large wire cutter tool that I have seems to give a clean edge and doesn't squash the end much and which returns to round shape quickly after, the blade method gave inconsistent edge results and was more laborious. I do admit though that not having used the specified JG cutter tool is on my mind and will remain there until the whole system is tested and over time 🙂👍🏻
