Nothing in this series is minimally realistic, he wouldn't win some of these fights even being big as he is, the plot armor is infinite here. To address your doubt, size doesn't matter, many people know they can knock out someone double their size so they just go for it, the unrealistic part, is that thanks to the plot armor this never happens in the end.

What I like about this scene is that you can see Reacher budgetting his attention towards all immediate opponents, not just one. This is a detail a lot of action movies lack. In a real fight, you should pay attention where every opponent is at. Also pay attention to your environment and position yourself so that you can siphon your opponents somewhere you can manage them. This attention to detail adds realism towards the scene and you feel awe at Reacher.

Right. I like that they have real good fight choreographer. The action sequence is not long-drawn-out type of action that I'm so used to watching on big screen, but rather more efficient too, in a way. A touch more realistic, I suppose.

No wasted effort, the most efficient way of dealing with the immediate threat and moving on to the next one, incapacitate to negate the chances of them getting back up, fight very very dirty and remember, it's not about winning....... it's about making sure your opponents know they lost.... badly. Like when he dropped a 1970's TV set on to the heads of two unconscious looters in New York City when he was 16. He's a cold MFer.

I mean, look at all the amazing films out there that in two hours can move you with music, special effects, story, visuals. In the book ("Killing Floor"), the aviators were what caused the attack. The assistant warden was given instructions from an outside crime boss that the gang was to take out (kill) the guy with the "glasses." That would have been the wimp that came in with Reacher before his glasses got smashed by a lifer in a previous scene. The wimp was part of the crime boss's outfit who knew too much and the crime boss was cleaning up loose ends. In the book, it was the assistant warden who scooted Reacher and the wimp to safety by moving them to another part of the prison because he realized he effed up by having the gang go after Reacher instead of the wimp.

There are not too many who remember that Don Pendleton series, friend. I came across a kit-shop paperback rack full of 'The Executioner' in 1981 while in CFB Petawawa (I was a young reservist at the time attending a tracked vehicle course) - fifty cents each (or was it 25 cents?). I bought four. I should have bought forty at the time! Going back to our home town reading on the bus, one of my buddies says;" Hey Batsch, this is a great book. I haven't read ten pages and six people are dead already." Mack Bolan is a noble character for a young man to admire, is he not? My favourite has to be '#30: Cleveland Pipeline', with psycho, bully-boss Tony Morello. THAT would be a good movie. But ya, '#1: War against the Mafia' would be more conducive to establishing the character of Sgt. Mercy.

In the book, "only" three guys attack Reacher, while the two other members of that gang lead Hubble outside, and Reacher is lucky to survive the attack. The tv series upped the violence quite a bit compared to the novel, except for the final showdown, which has more spectacular consequences in the book.

Fun part with this scene, is that the gang have been pushed into attacking "the guy wearing glasses" which was supposed to be the nerd. But because Reacher beat up a wannabee rapist and stole the shades he is wearing, the gang thinks he is the target. Which doesn't work out quite so well for them.
