I have raised several Jacks all at once. I called them “my pack of jacks”. They were the best friends I’ve ever had, and followed me all over my farm. I have so many wonderful memories. They started passing away at the age of 15-17 years old, and that’s been over the last 2 years. I have one left and he morns with me. I miss them so much. I just hope they will be in heaven waiting on me some day.

You can cure separation anxiety by saying " I'll be right back" go out the door for 1 minute and then come back in...gradually increase the amount of time you stay out over several days...saying the exact same words before you leave...eventually your fur baby will understand your not abandoning him/her and adjust to your leaving without being upset...

I have never owned a Jack Russell until a week ago. My husband found it out in the cold, someone had put it out like the trash, probably a Christmas gift that they decided they couldn't handle. She is adorable, she is 5 weeks old so you can imagine needs a lot of attention and care, especially at night as she didn't have the opportunity to be weened by her mom. But since we have lots of experience with dogs from over the years she's not a problem. I elected to be her buddy so I do the night feeding and gather any and all waste. We'll get there. TFS all your tips and tricks you can count on me as a new subscriber. Tina

My jack Russell was the first and last dog I've ever had. Patch was 15 when he died 5 years ago now. I still miss him terribly, I have mental health issues and my care worker suggested I get a dog to force me out doors , as I didn't like leaving the house. We got him as a 9 week old pup from the Blue Cross rescue centre, he was hard work to begin with as puppies are, but he became my best friend and always knew when I was distressed. He'd sit on my feet and let me play with his ears, (he loved that) he would go crazy if he saw me take my bike out of the shed as he loved coming with me when I went out on my bike. He would fuss and whine at the window watching me as he thought I was leaving him behind. I would take him on his lead then let him off when I got to the country road, where he would stay obediently at my side while I cycled along, he always obeyed my commands, he was very intelligent as mentioned in this channel, it's as if he could almost read my thoughts. Having said that he disliked cats immensely, and was very good at catching mice, he was very good at sniffing them out of their holes, he'd amusingly puff into the mouse hole until the mouse jumped out, then that was it, end of mouse!! . Only he wouldn't part with it, I had many embarrassing moments, walking him home with a mouse tail hanging out of his mouth whilst looking very proud of his catch. I got some very strange looks from people. I had to sneak it out of his bed while he was elsewhere in order to retrieve it. He did chase wild rabbits too and sometimes catch them 😔, but as also mentioned, Jack Russell's chase things, they are instinctive hunters. He also liked retrieving the post to hide in his bed too, I got some very warm letters where he'd been laying on them. Maybe one day I'll get another one, but I found it so hard to let him go when he became old, deaf and very poorly, it broke my heart. I couldn't bare to see him suffer, but the vet was so good, she cried with me. I called him patch because he was all white with one ginger patch covering his left ear and eye. He was also an all year round molter, white hairs absolutely everywhere every day of every year. That was my biggest challenge on dark carpets and clothes. Small price to pay for such a loyal and loving friend.

I had a Jack Russell for 13 years (never long enough) and he was my best buddy! Max was the smartest dog in the world! You were right on all counts of pros and cons! He would wake up my son every morning and come downstairs with him when he’s dressed. He would sit on top of the couch and “tell” us when the bus arrived. He loved to learn and do tricks and was happy to perform for friends and family. He knows what you are saying at all times (reacting with head tilt or ears movement). We had to watch him and know where he was all the time ( just like the kids). He was the best dog in the world! I miss him everyday.

I absolutly agree with your pros n cons. We allowed him to distroy his own toys and we still provide a lot to him in his 4th yesr. He never destroyed anything other than that. One other absolute con for me is that airlines accept dogs up to 8kg as dog in cabin. I had the first trip from Rovaniemi to Frankfurt when he was 10 weeks old. Since then he was always with me crisscross Europe. Businesstrips as well as holidays as he likes to swim and dig in the beaches sand. By traveling he learned quickly to stay silent alone in a hotel room over hours. We kepp the tv always on and have his own toys with us. So he feels somehow safe and is not too disrupted from people walking and talking outside. When he came to us I fixed a tiny bell near the door and rang it whenever we went out for a pee. He learned within a week to ring the bell himself whenever he needed to get out for a pee. (Later he extended that comunication bell to 'I wanna play', I'm hungry','lets take a walk'.....

Your welcome, I personally wouldn’t leave my dog alone for more than 4/5 hours. I work 8-4 so I organise a dog walker or friend to come around 11 for a walk, the days I’m not around. Jacks can become very destructive if not properly walked, ie ripping up carpet tearing sofas, shoes etc. They are social dogs and will want to be at your side constantly. If you are getting a pup you will need to be around, 2 hours max they should be left alone. Have you got family that can help you out?

I was given my Jack Rusell mix when I was in very low spirits and she has been my life saver!! As far as we can figure she is somewhere between 4-6 years old. I LOVE the affection she gives and that she wants to be where I am.. Her previous owner said she was always trying to escape from the backyard (and succeeding) and I'm blessed enough that she has never tried that in the year that I have had her. Of course, the lizard hunting is at an all time high in my yard and maybe that keeps her occupied enough to stay in the yard. :) When I am outiside with her, she is in my lap or helping me pull weeds. One thing I found odd about her is that she doesn't like toys!! I've had her just over a year and have found 2 items that she likes, but doesn't always play with. She doesn't play fetch, but she will play chase - or as i call it zoomies - she would be great on a track!! She is so fast when she gets in her chase me mode. I will admit that she is SPOILED but also has limitations and she knows them. Enjoy your Jack Russell. I love mine more than anything. :)

I'm sitting here right now with my 18 year old best friend, Jake, in my lap. We had a good day today full of treats, reminiscing, hugs, and plenty foot massages. His rainbow day is tomorrow, it's late, and we can't sleep. He's so stubborn and loyal that he probably would battle through a couple more years of debilitating arthritis, cushing's, and cataracts just so he can be by my side, but alas, I can't do that to my old boy. As they say, the more bad days than good have come to pass. I know every day after tomorrow there will be a large hole in my heart that no other creature on earth could fill, but I also know how lucky I am to have shared my life with such a loving, intelligent, and comical character. Boy, did we have some adventures! Boy, did we grow in love! Your list is spot on; Jacks are truly special, and make our lives so just by being who they are.

@@daikaregi I'm so sorry for your loss. It's tough. It's been a year and a half, and I can't say the pain goes away, but it does become easier. The first 6 months were the hardest. I still cry on occasion, and think about him most days, but now I think only about our adventures together and how happy he was and the joy he brought to everyone he encountered, instead of the pain I feel. Now most days, I'm left feeling happy with a smile on my face rather than dreadfully sad. For instance, I forgot I had wrote this original comment, and I'm crying now, but it's a good cry. The guilt was/is the hardest part for me; always second guessing my decisions for the entirety of his 18 years of life. My comment here has reminded me that I was a good dog mom to him, and that I shouldn't be doing that to myself. Thank you for the reminder; my heart has lifted a little bit more today. You will never stop missing him, but it does get easier, I promise. It's the price we pay for loving them and boy are they worth it. In fact, my husband and I plan to get two for the next round of love. You'll see, one day your heart will all of a sudden grow bigger and stronger because of the love you have for him, and you will have no other choice but to want to share that love with another little guy.❤

My partner and I were so lucky to be given our boy Sammy at age 1. At first he was almost manic due to having had no training and very little exercise, and he was yappy, hyper, and a pain in the butt! Within a couple of weeks he had mellowed into a real cuddlebug and gentleman Jack because he got regular walks, playtimes, and training from us. He's incredibly intelligent and eager to learn and please, He's a whizz at the shell game, a master rat-catcher, and the most loyal loving and happy dog I have ever met!. He is so beautiful (unusual colouring for a Jack) that he stops people in their tracks and they feel almost compelled to comment on how gorgeous he is. He was my first dog under 45lbs and I am now a complete convert. 😊

My mum adopted two sister Jack Russells when they were about 5 years old. They were as good as gold. One of them really attached herself to me, and I can understand the loyalty thing. My step dad used to call me her boyfriend as she really didn't want to know anyone else when I came around, and only had eyes for me. She was the most loving dog I ever knew. Sadly she passed away from a diaphragm hernia about a month ago. The local vet would not operate on her, and my mum took her to a specialist vet. The operation cost £4000. She survived it, but they could not get her blood pressure back up, and they had to let her go . The vet said the hernia could have been inherited, or could have been caused by her being hit by a car sometime in her past. Nothing like that ever happened when she was my mum's dog, and she had a very happy life for the last 4 years of her life.

Our family has had four of these awesome dogs. I can’t get enough of my little Mac. He’s awesome, I could talk about Jack Russell‘s for hours the history and the Norwich my family has with these amazing animals is incredible. I guarantee when you have your cons I can turn everyone of those cons into a pro. Every time, God bless you awesome Channel I should be coming here regularly 💋

Any of your dogs have issues with fighting? We have 1 other younger female and are looking at getting another female . Both will be fixed (1st female already is) but curious how true this is and if it's a real problem.

We have a 3 1/5 month old JRT He is everything you described. We also have a (6 lb Rottie who is the oldest dog we have at 14 mos. And a pittie who si 7.5 mos. T rottie is the big brother to both but especially the JRT. And yes they play rough . But they can also be gentle with each other. The first training seesion we took all three dogs to. We set up a couple of obstacles for Jacj ( our JRT ) and he loved it. I am working on making some things to challenge him. We love all of our dogs. But Jack is our lap dog and he watches the UFC with us. Jack is also crate trained and working on his obedience as well . love this video !

I have two terrier breeds: 5 y.o male Jack Russell mix and toy fox terrier, female who is 2 years. These two are so smart. Russell is a bit more independent but they both are very loyal and affectionate. Love them so much. This was my first time owning a small breed (after a German shepherd and Moscow guard dog), but I love the experience. Separation anxiety with the toy is still an issue- she doesn't eat or drink or do much when I'm not around. My Russel boy is a great hunter for mice, squarels, and bird. One advice, socialize them as early as possible with everything they come in contact - otherwise they become aggressive or fearful towards thing/live being.

My Jack loves playing ball on the stairs. It really wears him out going up and down the stairs. I can sit the ball on the hand rail and he will nudge it with his nose and it will roll down the hand rail and he runs down the stairs and catches when it leaves the rail and before it hits the floor. These dogs are fast. He loves playing soccer with a beach ball too

Hi, I used to own a Jack Russell called Max and he was my soul mate. watched your video and everything you have said is true. This year I have purchased a JackaMalti that is a crossbreed between a Jack Russell and a Maltese. She is 9 weeks old and is fluffy all over and that is the Maltese The other is the Jack Russell who likes to dig play run around and bark I have a lot of training ahead of me with her because the Jack Russell rears its head and is ready to go when I am not she is tenacious stubborn and just thinks she is the boss but she will soon find out I am or is that wishful thinking she is a lovely combination of the 2 breeds already she sits and waits when I tell her too and all that at just 9 weeks old loved the video and no dought I will watch again to get some ideas of what to do Thank you from the UK

Yep our female JRT is definitely an escape artist. She has escaped multiple times. Even though we have baby gates, We need up putting gates on our front drive. Thankfully our male JRT is scared of the road so won’t go anywhere near it. We cannot do gardening with the dogs outside because as soon as they see us digging they start. Our female JRT has separation anxiety that’s why we got a second dog + why she sleeps with my dad. Thankfully when we go out our JRT’s go to sleep. Con 9: they can bark at everything, con 10: they are constantly destroying toys so you need to keep replacing them.

Brother and sister will be 6 months soon. Got them both together at 8 weeks. Vet appt in two days to get spayed and neutered, micro chipped and the last of their shots. Its been an adventure! They are settling down and getting into a routine. YES they need a lot of exercise and I have 4 acres. They still can get bored so due diligence for sure. I found holes in our fence we did not know we had. Rabbits and other critters came through and created the new holes. We built all new fence and currently working on a new gate. Get it? They are WORK. Be prepared but they are totally worth it. They sleep in our room (crated) at night and no sound comes from them except puppy dreams. Great watch dogs and absolutely love you. Beware of sibling fighting over food, you and whatever they decide to fight over.

Looking to get another Terrier to be with My Blue Heeler Terrier mix, she is a great dog. Is there a big difference in the Parson Jack Russell Terrier and the straight Jack Russell Terrier? Any suggestions on why to get one of these dogs.

Jack Russell s are AWESOME LITTLE DOGS and you were spot on in your descriptions of the little guy ours is a male his name is Bandit and im crazy in love with him our first week as Bandits new owners he broke his left from leg and had to have surgery and a metal plate placed right on the growth plate hes all better now just a mere $5,000.00 and he's good as new but you talked about thier boredom and we know first hand because of his love to shred the puppy pads we lay out,I was looking for a way to share a picture of him but Im not seeing a way but he is the cutest.

MY FREIND'S STANDARD POODLE ATE CHOCOLATE AND PLASTIC AT XMAS TIME. THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE CONSUMPTION OF CHOCOLATE AND PLASTIC, UNTIL SHE VOMITED. RUSHED TO THE VET, (5) SURGERIES LATER, SHE DIED ANYWAY.... 35K ($35,000.00) LATER. THE GRIEF AND PAIN, HER PARENTS / FAMILY ARE SWIMMING IN IS BEYOND THE PALE. SO, YOUR 5K REALLY IS JUST A BIG OLD WHINE. PET OWENERSHIP IS NOT CHEAP!

Nothing against other breeds. Im a rerired groomer & live ALL dog's & have had difficulty breeds as a pet parent throughout my life, however 2 have stood out as very special personally for me. My German Shepherd/Collie mix and My Shortie JRT. Those two I had at different times in my life journey and throughout their complete live's. Excellent Dog's, loyal, intelligent and loving.

One prob w/ my 8 mo old "Franky" he won't come to me!! But he is soooo loving and sweet... we walk for about an hour a day and I let him off leash in a field but he just won't come backto me; i always bring treats that help me to catch him. maybe that's why (because he loves that freedom to run and doesn't want to come back?) anyway! Great video; glad I found your channel :)

I got my 1yo JRT free off of Craigslist (prob a mix bit looks like a pure long haired) she was tied up in a backyard and hid under a van for shelter ( the lady lived near a popular dump spot so she had several dogs that she found homes for). I had lost my 11yo shih tzu to cancer 4mo ago even though I missed her so much I wanted to give another dog a good life and kept an eye out. OMG ladybug is the smartest dog I’ve ever owned!! So different than a shih tzu lol. She has made me very happy
