Gotta love Jack's reaction to beat 1 after the quarter note on beat 4 leading into the band's shout chorus!

If you like jazz you love Jack Sheldon. I knew his work from TV growing up, "Run Buddy Run" sitcom, "Schoolhouse Rock" (I'm Just a Bill song) and in the Merv Griffin show band. Always knew even in the '70s (when I was in college in my 20s) he was a player. Louis Armstrong was / is jazz and the best musician and singer with a unique sound ever. Jack, God bless him, is in the conversation at the very least. Been in LA many times on business and after I retired I told my wife, "We fly out and see Jack!" after replaying one of his albums. By that point he couldn't play live anymore. This video made me feel I was there. First time I saw it. THANK YOU! R.I.P. Jack.

Thank you Steve. Jack was definitely one of a kind. Seeing him live was always an experience. Being in his band was such a pleasurable experience for all the musicians as he never followed a particular format, he always engaged the audience, tried new jokes, or just play. I miss him a lot.

@@ChristianJacobMusic wow, so sad that I am “finding” him after he has departed. Nostalgia hit me when I realize “oh now I can investigate who the School House Rock Jazz guy was on the internet”. It sad but great if someone told the 10 year old Jack about this Sci-Fi world where nostalgic 40 somethings in 2020 & beyond would look him on that could only be understood by a young jack as a super smart TV referencing a cartoon he will work on in the 1970s I think he would be tickled.

Hello there: no chops? You can’t be serious. You think that ballad solo is anything but difficult? Think again. Jack Sheldon is a profound gas.

The opening title sequence of the movie The Sandpiper in 1965. The melody comes in and who has the solo? Who introduces the world to The Shadow of Your Smile? Yes, Mr Jack Sheldon - he had a way with ballads!
