I used to rush home from school to watch him on Merv Griffin. That was 55-60 years ago...damn

My grandmother used to take care of us and make us watch Merv Griffin or go to bed. Caught this guy many times and never knew his name until KZbin.

I miss Jack so much. His style, his interpretations, his superior one-of-a-kind trumpet styles!

A great musician. A great entertainer... singer... What my wife and I usually describe as a person who personifies "professional show business" in the best sense of that word. And an great jazz artist. R.I.P. Jack.

Cool version. Love jack. He used to come to Sausalito ca with Monty Budwig in the fifties. I was a teenager trumpet player. He was a gas.

The best version of this by far. Just turning and bending and twisting the notes wherever he wanted. Smooth and with power at the same time. You'll be missed sir. Have fun with Merv

This rocked me. Jack Sheldon is the man. I saw him at a lunchtime concert in downtown LA in 1992. It changed my life and I became a jazz musician.

He got his start in Merv Griffin's band and just stepped out one night to do a verbal riff with Merv. It was just dynamite.

One of the most ironic things about Jack Sheldon is the title of the documentary about his life and career, "Trying To Get Good: The Jazz Odyssey Of Jack Sheldon." He should have already gotten a Kennedy Center Honor. He carried the torch of this type of jazz music, swing, bop, and Armstrong-esque entertaining through the years for us Baby Boomers. Does he still play live? I would fly to California to see him. This is an epic performance!

Uh the vinyl of this? This is my personal live on the fly 12 input 2 track no multi track recording I did while cutting my teeth on being an audio mixer. If there is a vinyl, the the college produced it. Unlikely. Take a pick of the product and send it to me. :). I'm intrigued. jamescurtisbarnes@gmail.com
