@@18thcenturyaddict10 First of all, if you're so knowledgeable, then you should know that stays are a type of corset. Second of all, regardless of what corsets are like in real life, the corset _in the movie_ made it hard for Elizabeth to breathe. I was commenting on what the corset did to her _in the movie._ The fact that you felt the need to "correct" my commentary on the movie's events is a bit sad. If you have a problem with how the movie portrayed corsets, comment on the movie, not other people's comments on the movie.

Name some female problems that compare to the fact that men are more likely to die on the job, more likely to commit suicide, more likely to get murdered, more likely to get assaulted, etc etc. Let’s even compare the example in this movie, shall we? Norrington is worried about how he’s going to get married and support his wife whilst commanding the royal army. Compare that to: Elizabeth’s corset being too tight. Even the original comment’s comparison is moronic.
@frieddegg
@frieddegg 5 жыл бұрын
DillonYalvis no one was saying anything against men and there problems. You just seem to be way over defensive and quite wrong with most of your facts. For example in their lives, 1 out of 5 women are most likely to be raped, where as for men that statistic jumps to 1 out of 71 men. Or women are 40% more likely to get a mental illness than men. I am NOT saying this against men whatsoever but you should do your research before attacking someone.

Jack didn't know who Elizabeth was and probably didn't expect that saving her would put him in any real danger. That said, I think it's funny that the movie starts with him performing a selfless act, demonstrating early on that he has at least some sense of decency and a moral center. It's not like he had anything to gain from saving her --- he just realized those soldiers were useless and knew it was the only thing to do without really thinking twice about it. Despite all the cheating and backstabbing he does throughout the series, it's clear he does have regard for other people --- he just has a tendency to put that aside when his own life is at risk. Which, while not exactly honorable, is pretty human when you think about it.

I have to wear a corset. A trick is to stick out your stomach as much as you can when they put it on. It usually works.

Seemingly bad guys doing good guy things is sort of my niche. Jack really is a smooth operator but he'll lay down his life for those he loves (sea, rum, and treasure).

So... I just watched a video on corseting and they weren't know to cause fainting, they just don't restrict you enough to cut off air flow like that. You also adjust to taking shorter breaths, so this isn't historically accurate but it's also a fictional pirate movie so.

Not exactly back than it was thought that the corset did cause the fainting thus they had "fainting" chairs for the women. It can happen when the corset is tied to tightly.

By the way the reason Elizabeth cant breath and the corset makes her uncomfortable is because they tight laced it as we can see in the scene where she puts it on. Not all corsets were death machines designed to not let you breathe

Tbf, the maid likely didn't know how to lace them correctly. Though I do admit that type of corset wouldn't have gone that tight to begin with

well its not the dress itself it's more that it's made out of really much fabric so the fabric absorbs the water and all the water come's underneath the dress thats what it makes it so heavy.
