Depends on their training habits as well. We don't know how DeGale lived his life - whether he let his weight fluctuate a lot between fights, or if he waited till the last possible moment before starting training for a fight. You need to stay in shape so that you don't leave too much of yourself in the gym while preparing for a fight. Boxers do recover from these fights though. Badou Jack did.

This was a great unification fight at a time when I really thought the division had a lot of spark behind it, it's a shame they didn't even clear a million each for this, DeGale got $750,000 whilst Jack got $700,000.

I thought Jack took this one. DeGale really slowed down in the second half probably cause of Jack's dedicated body work. After the 5th round, I only gave Chunky the 10th. 114-112 Jack.

DeGale made Jack look defensively vulnerable for a good 5-6 rounds which is impressive. Wasn't falling for any of his traps/feints and rather than dropping his arms vs those body jabs he kept moving around. Just couldn't keep it up for 12 rounds. What immense stamina Badou Jack has.

Jack cut off the ring very well, implemented his game plan very well, wasted nothing, but didn't let Degale off the hook at all, took full advantage whenever he had him pinned, but Degale's movement and punch selection were fantastic, fought very well under pressure, never obliged Jack, and although he was in big trouble in rounds 8 and 12, there were two consecutive rounds in which Jack was consistently walking him down.

I cannot believe the officiating in this one. The ref was claiming he'd "disqualify" DeGale if the mouth piece came out again, after literally having his teeth punched out in round eight, in round 12 he even refuses to re-insert it! Jack threw after the bell in three rounds, he also landed numerous low blows to no warning, I know what is the greater infringement. In my eyes this was a robbery, a close well contented fight granted (I had it 115-111 DeGale), but DeGale comfortably took at least four of the early rounds (plus knockdown) and outhustled Jack in a few of the championship rounds. A great fight, nearly ruined by an awful referee performance, clearly an away fighters nightmare and a law to himself.
