On the subject of vinyl....as a 38 year old who grew up at the apex of the CD era....it's kinda crazy to me how only recently vinyl releases OUTSOLD CD releases for the first time in like 40 years... I work at a used bookstore(we also sell music) and it's super cool and weird how 90% of our vinyl purchases are from kids like 25 and younger. They're super into it. It's awesome. I think it's a collective counter-reaction to the digital "cloudification" of _everything._ People want tangibility and unique experience....because that's rare now, hence valuable. Personally, I'd love to get into vinyl....but alas I simply don't have the funds for it (yet). It's pretty damn expensive. Especially newer vinyl releases. The artwork and whatnot is super cool....but quite pricey.

@@avedic I like that there are plenty of kids who realize that the internet is a goldmine for music. Plenty of kids go looking for something “different” instead of just being spoon fed Taylor Swift of whatever bland nonsense is new this week. I put different in quotes because they are finding classic rock and blues and old hip hop from 20,30,40 years ago... stuff like Pink Floyd, Elvis, Dolly Parton, The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, and other interesting stuff. It’s a good thing for the future of music.

@@avedic I'm one of those early 20s vinyl collectors and yes it totally is about having a tangible experience with the music. You could still get into collecting though!! I like to go to local antique markets and a lot of vendor booths there have records for sometimes as little as a dollar or two. Sometimes ill even pick a record because the name or the artwork appeals to me so i want to listen to it. The vinyl community is super dope. I love being a part of this resurgence of vinyl

I go to a lot of concerts and after awhile I just naturally stopped using my phone because I realized just how much I was missing by filming everything AND once I finally wanted to look back on videos I had filmed it was easier to just find the exact concert recorded on KZbin. My personal advice is: Put your phone securely in your pocket and party like crazy (:

Once there was a man who filmed his vacation. He went flying down the river in his boat with his video camera to his eye, making a moving picture of the moving river upon which his sleek boat moved swiftly toward the end of his vacation. He showed his vacation to his camera, which pictured it, preserving it forever: the river, the trees, the sky, the light, the bow of his rushing boat behind which he stood with his camera preserving his vacation even as he was having it so that after he had had it he would still have it. It would be there. With a flick of a switch, there it would be. But he would not be in it. He would never be in it. -"The Vacation" by Wendell Berry

Amazing concert and there's nothing wrong with sort of re-living that feeling or bringing back memories by watching the video. And not once did she feel "out of the moment".

I was at the Glitch Mob's event in Prague this spring and my friend was recording the whole show standing still, while i was jumping around and basically just enjoying it. You know what I mean? There's nothing wrong about taking a picture or two at a show, or recording a few seconds of your favourite song by your favourite musician, but there are certain people who push their way to the front and stand there with their phone in the air for the duration of the concert, exchanging dirty looks or words with people around them who are brushing up against them while dancing, cheering, singing along and having fun. C'mon people! Put down your damn phones and enjoy the moment, appreciate the music, and experience the ping-pong of emotion that the audience & artist are exchanging! Furthermore, I didn't pay $30, 60, $100 bucks to stand behind you while you have your arms in the air, phone in my face, blocking my view for the entire hour and a half. There are concert DVD's for that!

He puts more passion into his songs than Tankian? Are you stupid? He puts more passion into his vocals perhaps, but his actual lyrics are garbage just like almost all the other mainstream piece of shit band out there. Tankian on the other hand writes about problems in Israel, wars in the Middle East, poverty, etc. You know shit that's actually wrong with the world and by writing about these things he addresses them, unlike Danzig and all the other morons who got famous for writing garbage.

I'm split on this... On the one hand, I would never go to a concert and take pictures/video the whole time (especially if someone as talented as Jack White were playing). On the other, I really enjoy and appreciate a lot of the live footage uploaded onto the internet by people who clearly had a cellphone or camcorder out the whole time. I was born in '94, but I got to see The Libertines play at CBGBs because there's footage someone in the crowd took for the entire show. And that's really awesome... So I don't know what to think.

Absolutely. I'm with you Jack. If you're seeing his performance through a cell phone you're missing the experience. I have always had my cell phone in my pocket but I have never taken it out to film any concert I have been at. I'm going to see Jack in August in Phoenix and I can guarantee you my phone will be in my pocket. I want to live it with Jack. He is a performance musician. The object. Yes Jack people these days do not value the album. Even a CD with the art and things the artist includes. I never buy MP3's. Nope I buy actual albums. It's part of the whole experience.

The people behind you will get distracted by you holding your phone up over the crowd to record the show. He said that he will get the entire show recorded and made available to the public, and it will most definitely be done by professionals, at better angles and with better recording gear. You have no reason to sit there and record it with your shitty phone. And why would you spend money to go to a concert and talk? You go there to listen to the music and watch the artist live, not chat with your mate about last nights football game.

Basically concert goers should be considerate and respectful to the artist performing and the people around them who came to experience the music. You came to see the show for the artist and their music not take videos and if that's the reason why you came then I'm sorry but you got your priorities fucked up. Take a few pics for memorabilia and put it away. And besides Jack is only ASKING that you don't take out your phone. It's NOT A RULE that you have to obey and if you decide to go against that while everyone else didn't then you're gonna look real stupid in a sea of considerate audience.

what is it about Jack White that gets the general public massive guitar hero boners? As a guitarist myself for 35 years , all I hear in his music is standard blues stuff. In fact a lot of the stuff he does is what we did in the late 80s garage band stuff , but somehow Jack turned it into a career. Props to him , maybe I am truly the fool. He's good at what he does , but "revolutionary guitar hero"? meh

And yet he is critically acclaimed and not bashing other musicians on KZbin. He may not be one of the best guitarist, but being an artist is much more than that. Its about showmanship, collaboration, writing effective lyrics etc. He knows how to market himself and create an image. I always get annoyed when I see other guitarist constantly bashing him. It takes so much more than guitar skills to get where he is at.. And to top it off, he can just as easily play piano, drums, and perform lead vocals on stage on any given day. Now tell me, how many artist do you know, that are capable of all of this? Calling him a guitar god is a long shot, though.

I think its because his style and sound has that organic, analog classic rock feel and sound that a lot of people miss these days.. He combines that at times with some modern stuff. I agree he never comes of as a masterful technical guitarist, but his sound and some of his riffs bring back that feel you got listening to legends like Jimmy Page. So many musicians today are highly dependent on signal processing and digital gadgets to sound decent. Sometimes there is nothing better then hearing a good player play dirty or clean through some tube amps with very little effects overloading the tone and sound of the guitar.
