Today’s guest is not only a former infantry platoon leader in Afghanistan, he’s also a current candidate for the United States Senate.
Sean Parnell is a Ranger qualified 10th Mountain Division soldier who spent over a year on the front lines in Afghanistan before being medically retired as a captain for wounds sustained in combat.
Sean is a passionate advocate for veterans and co-founder of The American Warrior Initiative.
Sean is also the New York Times bestselling author of several books, including Outlaw Platoon: Heroes, Renegades, Infidels, and the Brotherhood of War in Afghanistan, and the popular Eric Steele series. The latest installment, Left for Dead, hits shelves on Sept. 7.
A third generation Western Pennsylvania native, Sean is currently running for the United States Senate.

Five Fucking Stars, this is especially important to hear right now. Everyone has conflicting emotions about the Pullout of Afghanistan. This is important to hear about, to be reminded of the things that go on there. Thanks.

We need men like you to inspire the next generation of young Americans more than ever. These recollections are so incredibly powerful. Our society throws around the term powerful, brave, and hero with such leisure. You exhibit these traits, along with being so humble, and so incredibly strong. I hope I can raise a child that turns into men like you someday. That would be my greatest hope. Cheers from a former cav scout 🍻

@@jonathandempsey9228 Outlaw Platoon is a must-read. It was hard for me to put it down. I will probably reread this book. The media never mentions what the Tal did to the kids. Another great read is “Only Cry For The Living” by Hollie Mckay (foreword by Jocko Willink) which details the atrocities in Iraq under isis and the aftermath.

I read Sean's book Outlaw Platoon a couple of months ago. I could not put it down. It was exciting, insightful, heartbreaking and sad. A myriad of feelings he so able to communicate. Then read his Eric Steele books. Jack Carr and Sean Parnell are my favorite authors. What great story tellers you two are. He will make a great Senator. Wish he was going to be mine in Michigan. I think combat vets really add value from the experience of life and death situations. Having a little girl die in your arms from wounds sustained, would have a life changing effect on one's self.

I was with 1-35 AR out off Baumholer Germany Old Ironsides. We were 10 days from going home when we got the word that we had been extended 90 days. That was very demoralizing, but there was nothing we could do but CM. 03-04, 05-06, 07-08 I was deployed to Iraq. And people wonder why I am so broken. And of course let’s not forget my fourth tour to Afghanistan 2011-2012 stuck at FOB Posab in the middle of nowhere. I still can’t believe I’m still alive.

Capt. Parnell was my company XO when I first got to bravo company 2-87 right after their 2006 deployment . Never spent any time in the field with him as he wasnt in command of a platoon at the time and I was with the “Dirty Birtds” and not the “Outlaws” , but he was always a humble leader. Hope he does well in the senate. We need strong leaders in the is goverment and He and all the leadership we had at the time was extremely hard charging. Especially crusty old 1st Sgt Greeson. God bless the 10th mountain division, Bravo Company 2-87 “Vires Montesque Vincimus”

Excellent interview! I'll be looking to get a copy of Sean's book. Jack, I've read all your books and I like that you keep raising the bar on yourself with each one! It was wonderful to meet you at your book signing in Houston. I'm wondering, though, if you have any plans to write a non fiction account of your own service? I'm sure a lot of your experiences are 'classified' as evidenced by the blacked out passages in your books. But I think a lot of your readers would like to hear your story about the SEAL teams. Keep up the great work!

In order to give our children anything resembling freedom and liberty, brave men will be required to stand in the face of tyranny once again. They have slowly and methodically taken every aspect of the culture over a century, but we have less than a decade to respond in a coordinated and strategic way to save the US. The enemy within is far greater than the enemy without. Without true leadership stepping up (which currently doesn't exist), we will be trying to learn to speak Mandarin soon. I support and pray for Sean in his run for Senate (we need 99 more like him). While it shouldn't be, I fear his dream of retiring in 8 years to a farm is a pipe dream given the L-shaped ambush that we have walked into. Jack, your number may be called again...as the twenty something you realized that the end of Afghanistan was inevitable the life cycle of democracy is also. Unfortunate but history shoots it straight...
