you can find more of these types of songs if you search for breakcore, it is its own microgenre and is actually how you described it. very mid-to-late 1990s electronica music with hardcore, drum & bass

woah wasnt expecting this game on here. jack u should totally play severed steel. its by the same devs. i played it a couple weeks ago and its short, but man is it fun. it also has time trial levels and a roguelike mode i havent tried yet. once i saw they were making this too i knew it was gona be good

This is a testament to the shooter players not needing cool graphics for a great game. Just have fluid movement, weapon, and gameplay mechanics, some decent music and your game will flourish.

Setting the skill ceiling too high pushes away casual players (who tend to be the bulk of the playerbase) soon after the initial hype surrounding game release. Once the playerbase dwindles down to those few high skilled players, it becomes functionally inaccessible to new players trying to get into the game, because they're several thousand hours of practice behind the curve. And so you end up with a small community that only dwindles over time. Good game balancing should bring the skill ceiling down to a point that casuals aren't being constantly pubstomped, but not so low that skilled players feel like they lose unfairly.

For me this really highlights a lack of single-player focused FPS games in the past few years. Every FPS game that comes out now is multiplayer only, or at least multiplayer focused. I think the last good single player FPS we got was Doom Eternal? We need more of them.
