Absolutely no doubt. IMO, the BEST and my favorite Tarantino film. Best story, best ensemble of a cast, best music, and MY favorite performance from Samuel L Jackson. And yes, i had to get the steelbook🔥🔥 btw, it’s in NO way generic and i think Pulp Fiction is overrated and the Kill Bill movies are stupid to me🤷🏼‍♂️

Time has been kinder to Jackie Brown more than any other QT film. At the time of release, it suffered because it seemed so small compared to the over the top Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. In the years since, the restraint used in the storytelling and characters that you love hanging out with has made it his most rewatchable work for me. The Forrester/Grier relationship is phenomenal.

Glad to hear the native 4K looks good! Fortunately for the ones left only one will be a 2K upscale. Death Proof will be 2K upscale, Django Unchained has a 4K DI and The Hateful Eight has a 4K di from 65mm.

1.) Kenneth, perhaps the reason why you like the writing of "Jackie Brown" so much, why it seems so refreshing from what has come before is because it's not an original Tarantino idea, but rather his adaptation of Elmore Leonard's novel "Rum Punch." 2.) "Jackie Brown" has been my favorite Tarantino film since I first saw it back in 1997. 3.) The reason this movie may still be underrated by some is because back in the 90's "Jackie Brown" had the misfortune of coming out in the shadow of "Pulp Fiction." 4.) There's not one bad performance in "Jackie Brown," but the standout is Pam Grier and most definitely Samuel L. Jackson. They should have won for best actress and actor at the academy awards. Talk about highway robbery.

I remember going to my local suncoast video store asking when the dvd version of JB will be available. I still own the widescreen VHS Miramax version and let me tell u, I watched the sucker out (and Reservoir Dogs VHS) more times than PF. NOW, the actual soundtrack is FANTASTIC!

@midlevelmedia thanks for the review. It puzzles me how great this turned out where Kill Bill is an atrocity. A beautiful filmic look, like you say, with natural grain, excellent color timing and a 100GB disc with a proper bitrate. Very happy with it but at the same time sad how they handled Kill Bill. Hopefully The Hateful Eight is next with a transfer that blows anything out of the water. But afraid they will fuck up this classic somehow.

Jackie Brown is a very good movie. Always thought it was. But you have to grade it on a curve with other Tarantino movies. For me, the Kill Bill movies are the most entertaining. Pulp Fiction is the most iconic, but if I am being honest, it is a bit uneven. The first two-thirds is as good as it gets. I think his best crafted movie is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

JB is one of Tarantino's best. In my opinion, his flashiness is his weakness. That's what makes him a one trick pony. Most of his movies devolve into some bs 20 min gore fest at some point. If he made more movies like Jackie Brown, his legacy would be stronger. In 20 years people won't remember some of his other movies because they don't amount to much more than stylized flash.

I agree with you. Some youtubers discouraged buying the steel, saying its ugly. But after seeing some other reviews, i cancelled the stndard 4k and bought the steel. Its a really good looking steel. And if you are a fan like me, it makes sense to have this one in steel.

The reasons you cited for not liking it as much as Tarantino’s other films are the reasons why I think it’s his best film. It showed that he was maturing and evolving as a director. But Jackie Brown wasn’t a big commercial success, so he regressed into being an insufferable fan boy and made stuff like the Kill Bills and Death Proof. As for the rest of his filmography between Basterds and Hateful, there’s moments that remind you how vibrant and vital Tarantino was when he was making stuff like Dogs and Pulp, but that stretch between 2009 and 2014 is bogged down by his unwillingness to streamline his films.
