Talented? This choreography is stiff as hell. Nothing looks fluid or realistic to fighting. It’s all stop, go and wait movement. I love old movies like this for their charm, but this choreography is ass.

The other day I tried to watch these God awful Denzel Washington male power fantasy bullshit movies, I don't even know what they're called (The Eraser, The Cleaner, The Vanisher, whatever) and they're just so insultingly dumb and disrespectful to the audience in terms of fight sequences. Denzel is a fine actor, no discussion, but unlike Keanu Reeves, he doesn't put in any effort in terms of action. The results are "choreographies" that consist soley of all those annoying movie "tricks" you mentioned: cuts every half second, shakey cam, all the atrocious nonsense to hide the poor performance. Asian Kung Fu movies back then easily surpass 90% of current action flicks. And the ones that actually work usually have some talented guy with experience in Asian cinema behind the choreographies.

It’s funny, Jackie isn’t a huge fan of this type of choreography. He found it very stiff, slow, with a lot of poses in between.

Interesting bit of trivia: the character played by Jackie Chan, Wong Fei Hung, is possibly one of the biggest names in kung fu legend - basically the equivalent of Bruce Lee for historical China (legendary China was another thing entirely). He was basically unstoppable, a literal force of nature, and aging did NOT stop him in any way. He was also quirky as quack - so the perfect character for Jackie to play.

It's funny how in movies or shows, to use the drunken fist style characters get intoxicated with alcohol, while in reality - it's a really refined and complex martial art style, where you actually DON'T want to be drunk to use it.. it incorporates such unpredictable, unorthodox and seemingly random movements and tempo that is often attributed to as if being drunk, making it a really difficult martial art to master... and being in a drunken state is the LAST thing you want if you want to use this art properly xD
@spartanx169x3 ай бұрын
The Drunken style of completely unusable against anybody with any fighting skills. MMA has proven that. The same way with all forms of Kung Fu. It works against someone with zero skill but thats all. Real street fight people end up wrestling a lot of the time if the fight goes past more than 2 or 3 punches.
@@spartanx169x Yeah, technically kungfu forms aren't even meant to be used in sequence as if they're combo systems like the movies portray. They just hold a list of technique positionings to help the student remember and practice conceptual fighting technique, but not to practice fighting. No actual practice of martial arts was permitted outside of military for more than a hundred years in China. Kungfu/wushu etc are more akin to cultural dances.
