From a poor childhood, a fractured family and without a dollar to his name, Jackie Gleason clawed his way to the top to become what many say was the greatest.

When I was a kid (born in '72) Jackie had a place on Long Island in Asharoken on the water and I lived in Northport Village and Jackie would take his boat into Northport Harbor (great restaurants etc) and would stop by the Sweet Shop and any kid outside by the shop got free ice cream from Jackie and he would talk to us and be a true mentor to kids. The man NEVER forgot where he came from.

I grew up watching the reruns -- I never laughed as hard when Ralph faced his mother-in-law and said "YOU.... Are a blabbermouth!" Truly unforgettable. RIP Jackie
most people don't know that actor Jason Patric is his grandson. Gleason's daughter is Patric's mother.

sad as it is to be critized, it's great to see people proven wrong for example the critc who said the "fatman will never make it" WRONG he did and the critic had been proven wrong.

Jackie Gleason also played Buford T. Justice in Smokey and the Bandit 3. and he also concidered sueing Hanna-Barbera Productions for makeing the Flintstones cartoon patterned after his TV show the Honeymooners, he was talked out of it by his lawyer who told him do you really want to be known as the man who took the Flintstones off the air and be hated by mothers and children world wide. children loved the cartoon and doing that would brake their hearts not to mention piss of the Mothers. so he changed his mind and droped the lawsuit.
