I wish I would have said hello and told him what a tremendous and funny talented man he was and how much I admire him.

Jackie Mason, he's the best. I think what makes people laugh so hard and so spontaneously is that everyone realizes that when he pokes fun at a particular group, Jews, Gentiles, that the people listening realize that they do the same thing sort of thing. The biggest laughs a comedian will get are "nervous laughs," the person in the audience seeing themself in the joke. RIP, Jackie, you made a lot, a lot of people happy.

Jackie Mason was one of the greatest comedians in show business. Combining wry observations with a little sarcasm, he was able to tap into some great universal truths. Many comedians owe their styles and careers to him. The only thing I'm sad to learn is that he began sliding into the use of four-letter words, which he had previously opposed.

What is the difference between a good comedian and a great comedian? I think it's TRUTH. The greater the truth, the greater the comedian. And the more serious the topic... the greater the comedian. Any comedian can make fun of politics, restaurants, the opposite sex, doctors, etc. But to make fun about our innermost thoughts, who runs the world, our prejudices, the part of us that we all keep hidden from the world... that is hard to do. In my opinion, the true greats are Mason, Carlin, and a handful of other - can't think of who right now. I would rank Carlin as the 'gold standard' of truth-telling about serious topics. These guys are PHILOSOPHERS. Groucho sometimes approaches greatness. Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor Mel Brooks, Woody Allen also. Who am I forgetting?

I agree with you. I think Jackie Mason should be ranked with the all-time greats: George Carlin, Jonathan Winters, Jack Benny, Bob Newhart, Bob & Ray, Martin Short. Chappelle & Chris Rock are earning their places alongside Pryor, Charlie Hill. Bill Maher is good. My criteria: who do I turn to again and again, to make me laugh, who is deeply funny or who has an observational intelligence.

Jackie was great in this video. He never was bad in any show, that i know of. I idolize stand-up comedians, where they always have something to say. It is their act. They gotta have a great memory to remember how their jokes go. They can't bomb a joke! They gotta keep their audience entertained, and they do a great job. Even some comedian, or comedienne, who sucks, like Amy Schumer, does a great job in keeping her audience entertained.

Jackie was great in Mel Brooks' History of the World - Part 1. He played the part of the Jewish man during the "The Inquisition" part, talking about the people who "started playing ping-pong with my balls". He took his Jewishness to heart. Listen to how many times he says the word "Jew" in this video. The only ever Jewish stand-up comedian i know of that talks about his Jewishness, mentions other Jews in his act, is Lewis Black. Maybe there are more out there. May he RIP.
