Jackie Wilson performance from the 1961 film, Teenage Millionaire. Shared for historical purposes. I do not own the rights.
Jack Leroy Wilson Jr. (June 9, 1934 - January 21, 1984) was an American soul singer and performer. A tenor with a four-octave range, Wilson was a prominent figure in the transition of rhythm and blues into soul. Wilson was considered a master showman and one of the most dynamic singers and performers in pop, R&B, and rock & roll history,[1][2] earning the nickname "Mr. Excitement".
Wilson gained initial fame as a member of the R&B vocal group Billy Ward and His Dominoes. He went solo in 1957 and scored over 50 chart singles spanning the genres of R&B, pop, soul, doo-wop and easy listening, including 16 R&B Top 10 hits, in which six R&B of the repertoire ranked as number ones. On the Billboard Hot 100, Wilson scored 14 top 20 pop hits, six of which reached the top 10. Jackie Wilson was one of the most important and influential musical artists of his generation.
A two-time Grammy Hall of Fame Inductee, and winner of the Rhythm and Blues Foundation's special Legacy Tribute Award in 2003,[3] Jackie Wilson was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.[4] In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Jackie Wilson #69 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. - Wikipedia

My older brother and sister got to see Jackie Wilson live back in the day and my sister got to take a picture with him where she was sitting on his lap, bad girl :-) I wish I had got to see him, I was too young. I only got to see Michael Jackson 7 times live, "poor me," :-) LOL. Two of the best entertainers there ever was.

@@chaideelove1819 Do some research! Elvis and Jackie were good friends and both showed appreciation for each other. Elvis already had his own style when he went to see Billy Ward and His Dominoes in La Vegas, JW was their lead singer in Nov 1956. He recalled what he'd seen in the "million dollar quartet "sessions " noting a colored guy (he didn't know who JW was at the time) doing a “takeoff” of him. Elvis says he “sang the hell outta that song” and sang it better “than that record of mine.” He noted the way JW pronounced 'tel-ee' phone and the next time he was on the "Ed Sullivan Show" in Jan.57 he sang 'tel-ee' phone and grinned knowingly. Jackie does Elvis's mannerisms on this song and "Lonely Life" in the movie.(Elvis watched this horrible Jimmy Clanton movie just too see Jackie clips) and "Love Train" (1963) kzbin.info/www/bejne/emexYaFrr8ufa68 . As for moves, Elvis only incorporated some classic JW moves into a couple of his movies, one when he sang "Return To Sender....Jackie was on set with him, standing off-camera watching. Jackie is well documented saying about Elvis "A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer has copied stage mannerisms from Elvis." They had great respect for each other as singers and performers. When Jackie was very ill and needed care in the mid-70s, Elvis paid a significant amount of his medical bills. Here is what Jackie had to say about their friendship link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/laSTnop6iKyWb8k P.S. Elvis had plenty of soul!! Jackie and Elvis are both legends, however, I will say Jackie deserves a lot more acknowledgment for being the brilliant entertainer he was.

Wilson also said he was influenced by Presley, saying, "A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis. " People who are truly creative get inspired by each other. Both Elvis and Jackie admired each other and brought their own things to the table. As they say "standing on the shoulder of giants" No one seems to care that MJ lifted a lot from Jackie. It's art.

Elvis wasn't a student of black culture. He was dirt poor white kid who used to hang out in black music clubs cause he loved the music so much. Elvis was definitely inspired by rhythm and blues but added country and crooner sounds to the mix and created something his own. No artwork is created in a vacuum.

@@NTakaNiggatron ..Yes Nt 2002 , you are rare at your age to have such musical taste....but it means you are not a follower of trends or fashions.....you obviously are an independent free thinker and don't succumb to peer pressure .....These are admirable qualities . I of course still recommend you check out my JACKIE WILSON uploads and my Utube created playlist titled ""JACKIE WILSON'S BEST" , and please make sure that my name Mike Vallen is posted as the developer of the playlist . I was a NYC recording engineer and friend and fan of the late great Jackie Wilson and 14 years younger than Jackie Wilson.....so I'm just about 4 times your age ( I'm 71yrs old).....but rhythm and blues and the soul music from 1957 to 1965 has surely kept me young at heart ( both physically and emotionally ) . Do keep listening to the music that touches your heart and you can't go wrong . Be well young person . Sincerely Mike Vallen .
