Jacki, there is a reason people in the concrete business wear rubber boots and gloves when working with cement. I have two friends that did not do that and had to go to the emergency room with chemical burns on their feet from walking in the same cement you were using. Instead of using your hands you should get some 2" by 2" boards and screw in a 4" by 4" piece of plywood on one end. You can use that to tamp and vibrate your concrete into the edges and through the mesh reinforcement better than using your hand like that. That also makes the aggregate (stones) to push into the concrete mix and leave a the liquid cement on the surface to make the smooth surface you wanted on the bottom and the top of the concrete.

seeing y'all put those traps together reminded me of how much i miss catching blue crabs , i lived in buras la. and we would put out a hand full of traps around our camp on bayou cook, that's to your right as you go over the empire over pass headed to venice , don't think it's there anymore do to erosion and hurricanes, any who , good luck and hope y'all have a good catch. \m/

Good job Jacki. Proud of you for learning how to do things on your own. Next time if you going to put wire in bottom of traps use mortar mix. Not sure but I think it comes with material to make it stronger also
