Nice fish, here in Serbia we are using minnows as the bait.

Love the video. Very well presented. I also like how you present not only the float and hook but also the rod and reel. I was thinking though, when you use those small hooks and maggots, don't you get a lot of "unwanted" fish (roach, minnow etc)?

Its funny how different set ups result in the same results! I also use a large float but with a size 10 wide cape hook, king prawn section with at least an inch of float tip showing. Large perch I find dip the float once and then slowly glide away underwater which is when you strike. A relatively large amount of float tip showing helps to show this and stops you striking small fish just simply having a nibble which would take a small float tip like this underwater.

Great Perch, nice vid. I couldn't disagree with you more about the Drennan series 7 reel though Martin, I bought the feeder version and within two uses in dry weather it felt rough. I took it to bits and the main roller bearing was rusty, it's never been dropped in the water or washed in water. I hope their customer service is good! Just getting in touch is difficult though, no email and hard work to find a phone no. too Not good Drennan!

I had 2 fish over 3lb in 20 mins from the river Wear, but they were following each other, may be why I got second so quickly, beautiful fish, no one fishes the wear these days, some cracking fish, I had a 11 1/2 lb barbel, 2 4lb+ bronze bream, a 1 3/4 lb roach, but the wear has declined lately, not due to lack of fish, but more lack of anglers...........our stretch is awesome, some cracking Dace, almost record size.........wish it would al pick up.........

The river Wear? I used to live in Sunderland when I was at Uni there and the only thing you could catch from the Wear was a nasty disease, plus it smelled really bad. This was over 15 years ago now of course, maybe it's better now. Which stretch do you fish?

Size 18 seems very small for Perch. I bow to your superior knowledge Martin but I'd never go below a 14 for Perch.

I usually do fine on size 16 for decent sized perch, but choose that so you can still catch roach or rudd if they're around

nice but personaly i think you put to much weight on the float and fishing on a single maggot i supose u get alot of very small perch dace and maybesome minnows so i would fish on a minnow
@ukp57110 жыл бұрын
I think you've missed the point of weight on the float..it gives you distance options

Telling Martin Bowler how to fish? That's like telling Lionel Messi how to play football!
