I think the reason why you may like Mariah’s lower notes more than higher because Mariah hits higher notes more so were so used to hearing her high notes but we get surprised when we hear her low notes.

Fun Fact: Mariah was originally suppose to do “Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin but chose not too because she felt like she couldn’t do the song justice and instead wrote this song with Carole King who also wrote “Natural Woman” instead! To me, this performance and Whitney's One Moment in Time at the Grammy of 1988 (if I remember correctly) are the most perfect vocal performances ever by any pop artist.
