1:46 I've often been in Germany and I have rarely seen an International truck. McCormick, IH and Case tractors are quite common in Germany and in the Netherlands. In the house where I grew up in the Netherlands, the black boxes in the fuse box had a symbol much like the IH logo. My mom said it stood for three phase current. Later when I saw IH tractors I called them three phase current tractors, though they were diesel, not electric. It now just comes to my mind that my mom was wrong in that. The logo (letter H with three vertical bars) on the black boxes in the fuse box stood for Holec, a Dutch electric installation parts manufacturer.

"Terminator" fact correction. They never blew up or burned a full size truck in that movie. The "truck" they blew up was actually a scaled miniature that was pulled by a string. The "truck" had to be rebuilt once as in the first take they accidentally pulled the steer axle off of the truck in the first take. Also, I believe, that the miniature has more of an early Ford CL series look than that of a "bullnose" Pete or KW.

@@Lilfarmrboy that was self inflicted by Ford with their influence on the design and demand for more horsepower. The International versions had fewer problems, but International wasn't in a cock size competition with horsepower.
@Lilfarmrboy5 жыл бұрын
Actually Ford didn't have much say in the matter. Both companies agreed that a new motor was in order as the 7.3 liter was getting long in the tooth at that point. International designed a motor for its school buses and Ford was an afterthought. If you remember back in 2003 there was a period where you could get a Ford with either a 7.3 or the new 6.0 in the redesigned Super Duty. International didn't have to meet the new tougher EPA requirements when the motor was used in its school buses hence why they did significantly better (yet they still suffered from overall design flaws in the buses also) vs. Ford pickups which did have to meet those new tougher EPA regulations. I will never know why folks still want to say "but Ford designed it" when it was the EPA requirements that were the problems and International didn't account for them. Case in point years later International had to stop using their MaxxForce engines in their over the road trucks and go back with Cummins because those motors were garbage also because International couldn't meet the EPA regulations.

Actually the real dispute started over the old 7.3 non turbo from the late 80s. There was a bad batch of blocks out of Mexico that would develop holes in the block if coolant conditioner was not used. International has told Ford all along to use coolant conditioner but Ford never told their customers. When they started coming back under warranty Ford sued navistar. Navistar won and the relationship continued because international was making money and Ford needed time to develop their own motor. Rumor has it all the problems with the 6.0 was intentional because navistar knew Ford had their own coming.

Yea, Ford dropped international because they wouldn't pay their half of the warranty payments for the issues with the international supplied engines in the super duty trucks, Ford had to sue them to uphold their end of the bargain which is probably the main reason Ford decided to bring the engine and transmission program for the super duty truck in house because the power stroke engine had become a joke engine as made by international. I wanted to get into hot shotting and called a company about using a ford super duty to haul freight with them and they told me they would not use any driver with the power stroke engine because they couldn't be bothered with broken down trucks on the side of the road with their freight, they suggested a cat swapped engine super duty would be just fine or preferably a heavy duty Dodge with the Cummins engine.
