Ferguson was having a ton of success striking at range with front kicks and left straights from southpaw, and threw quite a bit of southpaw double attacks. Justin looked like he was struggling to close the gap. Post rd 1, he abandoned that completely and started walking into the pocket, face-first into counters. Wtf was his corner doing!?
@ruveng.90584 жыл бұрын
To be fair, Tony has had a lot of success with this approach against other fighters. In round 2 his opponents usually get exhausted so he can get close and use elbows and so on but Gaethje was prepared for that. He conserved his energy and countered Tony every time he went forward which Tony wasn't prepared for because so far he has worn out everybody.

During the Tony fight, as soon as he went for weird shit Justin was outside leg kicking or throwing a left hand. It stunned him a couple of times, and suddenly nothing was working. It was a first seeing him look so uncomfortable. I was literally on the Verge of tears realising he was screwed. I know we can't say he's over, but unless Khabib throws him a bone or he wins the next (I believe either Dustin or Conor), I feel like we've seen the next gate keeper. I didn't see him look particularly different, in terms of the weight cutting effect. It looked more like, as you said, he couldn't get comfortable. And it maybe a bit of fear
@walkerg19914 жыл бұрын
Same dude. I felt the same. It felt so meaningless too, all for nothing. Tony had long since earned his title shot, and didn't need to take this fight, but did for the competition and fans anyway. Seeing him be punched out of his flow when he was supposed to be fighting a grappler for the title felt cold
@s-manx35094 жыл бұрын
@@walkerg1991 exactly. Like Jackie said, it made no sense taking this. It's a gut punch to real fans. But, it's also up to Tony to do what he wants. Let's hope he overcomes this loss
@spa2damax4 жыл бұрын
All the feels watching him wince and wobble toward hook after hook from Justin. He just never seemed to loosen up and string things together. He was finally found out for standing still in the pocket too. What a waste. And Justin's wrestling is very overated, can see him getting exhausted and pummeled /decisioned in a khabib fight.
@ruveng.90584 жыл бұрын
If Khabib beats Gaethje (very likely imo) Tony is still the best opponent to give to Khabib since Khabib has beaten everybody else. Dana will insist on the Conor rematch but Khabib has enough leverage to say Tony first, then Conor. Tony has earned this title shot years ago, one loss doesn't erase all of his accomplishments.
@s-manx35094 жыл бұрын
@@ruveng.9058 the biggest issue isn't whether or not Khabib wants Tony. It's who Dana and Ali Abdulaziz give him. And it's his final fight, which he indicated with 30 fights to close off his career, then Dana will want to milk him hard.
@joeiznang4 жыл бұрын
The most important question to me is: How hard are Justin's shins? It's crazy the damage he dishes out with those. Tony's legs were bleeding from checking!! I've never seen that!! Wtf , Tony's shins didn't bleed when he was kicking metal!!!!

I was curious on your thoughts on Ferguson's knockdown ìn round 2. In my eyes that was the only point in the fight Ferguson looked like he was having decent success. He was waiting for justin to engage and then countering he had success a couple of other times in the early rounds doing this. Do you think Ferguson should have stuck with this and adapted rather than constant forward pressure ?

I feel like tony should just work on his defense and put a bit a pressure on his opponents by working his jab and maybe a front kick or leg kick but he needs to stop leaving himself open, he needs to make sure to stay defensive and pressure his opponents a bit with his jab and slowly break them down until they go in for an attack and then that’s where he should catch them
