I'm a 60 year old purple belt, been training for 6 years and I compete (not big comps, just regional stuff). I train 3 times a week, and the off days I lift weights, when I have time, as my job is also physically demanding. What works for me is all things you mention, rest, and safe training, I don't roll with crazy people and the "listen to your body" part, also, consideration towards my training partners, which might not seem it has direct impact on your training, but when you are considerate, people respond to that and that also impacts your training, I have to say I never lack training partners, male and female so I might be doing something right

@kylieminou7775 that's awesome to hear. 60 and still going hard is inspirational. It's right what you say about being considerate to your training partners. That's definitely another really important aspect of training. If you take care of your training partners, they'll take care of you. Thanks for leaving a comment 🙏

Fitness exercises like weight lifting, running, stretching facilitates jiujitsu and reduces risk for injuries. Jiujitsu is a Martial Arts and Combat Sport...... Small Risk are associated with activities like these.....

I'm a month in and I've learned to tap out early and often. When I'm rolling with a higher belt and I feel them grab my arm while it's extended, I know what's coming and just tap before they can even get the armbar in. Safety is just as much your own responsibility as it is other's.

Great advice. I will start implementing these. Been training for a year now and recently I started to get pain in one of the shoulders and of the knees. I need to start listening to my body more.

@Mannertheman shoulders a common one aye, and a lot of people just ignore it unfortunately. How are you finding jiu jitsu after training for a year though?

Great video! Thank you for sharing. I really don’t train standing. The vast majority of the time I ask the young bucks to start in a guard or I play open guard. I also do not invert. I respectfully ask the professor to give me another option. 🤙🤙

I have a lower back injury now that the doctor says is a stress fracture on the spine based on an xray. I'm so bummed. Like I could push through the pain but I already tried that and it got worse which is why I went to the doctor
@JiuJitsuMobility2 ай бұрын
@LastRellik that's sucks! Just coming off a big injury myself, be patient with it. Use this time to work on what you can. Get some little grip stemgth tools you can always improve your grips. Watch some bjj concepts and study them. Take notes. Go along and watch the classes take notes. There's still plenty you can work on. And take your recovery seriously let the injury have the time it needs so you can come back stronger than ever.

@@JiuJitsuMobility running by itself does not impact the joints and bones. It makes them stronger according to wolf’s law - exercise science principles. Chronic running without adequate nutrition and rest will impact bones and joints. Jiu jitsu is also not “low impact” all the time. Jiu jitsu safety is dependent on training partners behaviour. Weightlifting and running are far safer than jiu jitsu, when done correctly with appropriate rest.
@JiuJitsuMobilityАй бұрын
@matthewthehawk1066 I'll respectfully counter with, your not wrong about running helping strengthen your bones. But the average person is not wearing the correct shoes to support the their running gait which does impact your joints heavily. Also the average person isn't taking recovery or nutrition seriously will leads to injuries. Jiu Jitsu will stress the joints more. But the impact coming up through them is not very high. And also I try to be quite broad with the information here as I'm speaking more to the average person who is prone to over training, not understanding nutrition and recovery. You're not wrong though when done correctly everything is very different. But in my experience in coaching and personal training 90% don't know about the importance of correct form, nutrition and recover. That's what I'm hoping to teach more on this channel. 🙏
