This is a really good lesson by a guy who really plays well but also understands the guitar. Since I practice better if I have tab, I wish there was like a PDF to refer to, but no worries. This stuff is so good I'm just going to tab it out myself. Thank you !

Hey! DO NOT QUIT Yes, I took lessons as a kid…10-14. For a while two a week. So I was into it. I also had nothing else to do! That said, I had no innate talent, just too stupid to stop! So don’t get discouraged if this stuff isn’t coming right away. Take it lick by lick…Also, slow it down! YT allows a custom playback speed. So…take it down to 75% and work up in 5% increments. Let me know if I can help👍 🍄💀⚡️

@@jacksnax4guitar460 Hey dude good to hear from you. What bought me here? The Dead ! My journey to this is...I have played RnB and jazz in bands for $ for a long time BUT first Inspo was the playing of Barry Melton from Country Joe on the Fish - a tune called Eastern Jam where I first hear the mixolydian scale and it hooked me. I sometimes play that tune after hours...Garcia of course does it differently but the sound is defo there - mixolydian thing I mean. So that is my story! thanks for the welcome man. I am learning one Dead tune at a time ...it brings together all the jazz/blues/1960s psyche band sounds which friggin live in me!!!!
@davidgraham9523 жыл бұрын
also...I really appreciate the advice you give to get every lil building block fully correct and singing. Sooo true. I was advised quite a while back as follows..." if it aint in the pocket/if it isn't singing/if the flourishes eclipse everything/if you try to be Jeff Beck/zappa/ ...you won't get asked back...these are the immutable laws kid. Learn." lol harsh but true.
@jacksnax4guitar4603 жыл бұрын
@@davidgraham952 Indeed. I teach rhythm first, melody second, harmony third. “It don’t mean a thing...” and all that. Sounds like you’re far down the musical path...check out the Deal, Eyes of the World and Franklins Tower lessons. I think those are fun tunes. There’s a lot of that stuff along with technique and other genres covered here. So glad you decided to visit, and don’t be a stranger. If you’ve got a question about something in a lesson, please let me know and I’ll try to clarify or help. Best, Jack

Jackksnax: for us real beginners RE lead playing, is there a root formation (a lead mixolydian-type thing like the pentatonic) for these chords? e.g., I use a 10th or 12 fret MIXO for Fire or Franklin's and I don't really know how to explain what I mean.
@jacksnax4guitar4603 жыл бұрын
Yeah...I guess there is, but I wouldn’t go looking for it in this lesson. This is pretty far down the road from beginners level. The way I’d suggest a player to begin to understand the Mixolydian sound is that it’s the major scale with the 7th note flattened by one fret. That’s the “Ti” that you’d be singing in the do, re, mi... If I was going to try to guide a player to a greater understanding of Garcia’s approach, I’d suggest, lots of major pentatonic scales and the major scale (which would include the Mixolydian mode) while encouraging them to learn to play the vocal melodies of the songs they’re playing over. If you’d like more help, let me know.
@jacksnax4guitar4603 жыл бұрын
Logos Hey...after reading your comment and a few others, I began to think about a simplified approach to the Mixolydian mode. I hope this helps get you started! kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmnVnWSsZrqJlZY

Kind of a phony Hendrix thing? Pretty much an afterthought. Hammer on the G string from the 7th to 9th fret while holding down the G note on the B string @8th fret. That’s over the C chord. Then do the same thing over the G chord, but down one string and allow for the different tuning on the b string. Then finally resolve into the D chord by playing the F# on the A string 9th fret as the lowest note over the D chord triad on the 7th fret DG&B strings.
