Awesome job! Remember hearing Jerry play a fantastic version of this tune at one of my first GD shows here at Kingswood Amphitheatre - [Ontario, Canada] back in 1980ish.....Jerry was still in his prime at the time! Just a stellar show it was.....another inspirational lesson. Jack!!! You really are an extremely talented player!!

Thanks! I think taking ones playing back a notch and leaning into the space between musical elements is a real problem for some emerging players. So, whenever I can I like to set up a moody loop and play with the space. Using rests and gaps between ideas helps frame them in a more musical and poignant manner. That’s what I like about tunes like Morning Dew. Thanks for watching and for the comment.

¡Hi Jack from Spain your channel is absolutely bananas great! Thank you so much for your generosity and superb insights. I have learned so much from you in the three or four weeks since I first stumbled upon your channel looking for ways to spruce up my Crazy Fingers soloing. I subsequently tripped and fell way deep into the Jacksnax rabbit hole and I am meticulously working my way out one video at a time on repeat multi--viewing. Again, much appreciated the patience and dedication to superlative content here in sharing your vast knowledge and your playing is out of this world! I cannot thank you enough!

@@jacksnax4guitar460 Hi Jack, I have subscribed and I do find your channel inspirational. I am back to reviewing Morning Dew again and I'm getting close to being able to play the solo along with you at the 75% speed. Oh, and thanks for the explanation about your Strat... I gave up on trying to get your tone out of my Strat thinking it must be my 1976 Fender Champ amp.

@@stevkeys the better you get at playing the less the gear matters…to a point. I basically sound like me on whatever rig I’m on as long as it’s not pure crap. Not to say I don’t have preferences, but (goes without saying) the player is the most important element in all this. Thanks for tuning in and being part of this! Happy to help! Best, Jack

You’re welcome John! Guilty as charged. Certainly on my channel… I’m usually playing more advanced stuff, and I thought this would be a nice point of entry for some players. Check out my B Mixolydian for beginners lesson. I’ve gotten good feedback on that one from a lot of folks. Thanks for the comment and for supporting the channel.

Kemper 64 Deluxe reverb profile from Top Jimi. EQ to taste. Added occasional TS9, Compression, Reverb and Delay from the Kemper as well. Part of this is the middle pickup with no tone control. It’s a DiMarzio VV “Blues” model from a while back. Heavy (1.5mm or 2mm) pick is another essential component.

I understand modes, just trying to use them, am I right that Mixo is the 5th note of the scale and just try to highlight the 5th note and start on the 5th note?
@jacksnax4guitar4602 жыл бұрын
Hi Doug, Hard to explain in writing. D Mixo is the G major scales notes played from D to D. The D is the 5th note of the G major scale so you’re using the 5th mode of G major. That Mode was given the name Mixolydian by the church way back when….It comes in handy when playing in songs like Morning Dew. In this instance it turns out to be just the D major scale with a b7. Occasionally it’s helpful but usually just to explain the sound you’re going after with people who understand the nomenclature. It’s a part of music that makes most students’ heads spin. The “what” is less important than the “why” imho, but whatever. Lots of helpful vids on the matter on YT. I’m available for lessons if you’d like to discuss…but I think it’ll become second nature the more you play. It escaped me for a while…so just hang in there. 😊👍✌️

Thanks for watching and for your comment. I totally appreciate your restoration work! I should underline this…these are my ideas of a basic solo in the GD style. NOT an actual Garcia solo. I love chasing the subtleties of NFN transcription, but this is more for the intermediate player looking to get started in this style. Cheers! Jack

@lespaul-vy4vn2 жыл бұрын
@@jacksnax4guitar460 That is awesome that you can play by ear. Wish I could...but I wasnt given that gift. Ya know...I have done tours with The Dead since 93 up until the untimely death of Jerrry. I have traded tapes and gave tapes away just because a Head needed it...my own personel tapes just to be kind. I have been asking this site of people that have been playing Morning Dew for their tabs and yet I get nothing. Which is fine. I get the same old bullshit story I play by ear. I have been looking for some good tabs for this song for years and all I get is the same story. I guess that is the difference between Old Heads and New Heads. New Heads just dont get it. Anyway...good playing.
