I remember when this came on t.v. on channel 7 in New York City in 1971 there wasn’t a kid to be found outside, everyone was home getting ready for The Going Back To Indiana Concert to come on. This was was a BIG EVENT when I was coming up I’m glad I got the opportunity to experience it with my Brother.

I was crazy for J5 as well. I missed this and so glad to find it now. I've replayed the concert part several times. Did you notice the poor miserable white couple in the audience (44:50)? I just lost it laughing at that. If I were at a J5 concert I think the black folks around me would have been checking if I were okay (as a white girl losing it over their music.) 🤣

My sister watched this actual special when it aired!!! My sister was a teenager and I was a pre-teen and our mother told us if we wanted to watch it we had to take our baths first so we would be ready for bed after we watched it, It was so hard to go to sleep after a show performance like that!!! That's all we could talk about the next dayd at school. Then for Christmas our parents bought us the soundtrack and I played it and sang along almost all Christmas Day!!! It was so exciting!!!

I remember watching this special in St Louis 53 years ago when I was 6 when me & my late sister passed on in 2017, I watched over Ms. Sylvia's house on Clara St. watching it in Chriss bedroom on a Monday evening on channel 4, in St. Louis. Time brings on a change. Sorry for the passing of Tito Jackson. RIP.

Apparently Sting, a seasoned musician at 27/28years old, spent many extra hours rehearsing because of how difficult it is to play the bass and sing at the same time in the Police. Jermaine here is 17, dancing. singing and playing those complex basslines. These kids were worked HARD!!

Jackie and tito stand strong for Gary indiana. They didn't get Hollywood. They was just very rich and super famous. Jackie was FINE back in the day. He protected his baby brothers and was the strongest brother. In the late 60s, early 70s, motown had it on lock for TV specials with their top singing performers. I saw this live, but I don't hardly remember it. The one with diana ross definitely remember seeing that live probably eight or nine years old

I didn't realize how much the J5 drew me into classic Motown groups that apparently I might not have known about otherwise. I assumed all white people knew the Motown hits. I was talking to my boyfriend just recently and while he now knows a lot of the music he didn't then and he didn't know a lot of their stories as I did. I'm really grateful to the J5 for not only the music I love so much and went wild for at age 11 when this came out, but now know that I would not have had the exposure to great black music that I did.
