When he was praying for it was so emotional and showed he still loved her. (same when she had Harriet) They should have never put her back with Matthew after that, there were much better ways to write her off if that's what they wanted

when he prayed for her, "prayed her back to the world" as April says, i think it was the most humane moment for him. he had to really believe in a god he had never believed in before, because he wanted her back no matter what. when he says "I'll do anything please don't take her away", my heart broke because he's a man who does not believe in any god, still he's saying to this god "have mercy, don't take her, I'll repay you in any way". such a powerful moment, so touching and deep.
